True enough.
Anyone who has studied the Bible from the viewpoint that you subscribe to (higher criticism) can not trust the Bible.
For all those that doubt the trustworthyness of the Bible, the doubt precedes any confidence in scripture. Yet, for all of us that know and trust the Bible, the Bible told us you would take the stand you have taken.
2 Peter 3:3 For YOU know this first, that in the last days there will come ridiculers with their ridicule, proceeding according to their own desires 4 and saying: “Where is this promised presence of his? Why, from the day our forefathers fell asleep [in death], all things are continuing exactly as from creation’s beginning.” 5 For, according to their wish, this fact escapes their notice, that there were heavens from of old and an earth standing compactly out of water and in the midst of water by the word of God; 6 and by those [means] the world of that time suffered destruction when it was deluged with water. 7 But by the same word the heavens and the earth that are now are stored up for fire and are being reserved to the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men.
Yes, there were unbelievers in ancient times, and there are unbelievers now, so, I will not try to convince someone whpo has made up their mind against scripture, I just fell totally confident in allowing you and those like you to have your unbelief.

You think it is a bad answer because you probably don't believe in God (and I see that you are frustrated with these types of answers so why don't you ask the person whom you're chatting to give more examples, details etc.)
I agree "because it says so in the Bible" is not an answer!
BUT!!!
The basic principle on which the Bible works is that "if anyone find out that one of the many predictions/stories... things in there is fake then the whole Bible is a fake"
So... unless you prove that the Bible is a hoax... or at least put some arguments in your question people will never realize that... ever!

(1) Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the Bible is the only source of God's Word.
(2) The first Christians "were persevering in the doctrine of the apostles" (Acts 2:42; 2 Tim 1:14) long before the New Testament was written — and centuries before we knew with certainty which books were part of the New Testament.
(3) The Bible affirms that Christian teaching is "preached" (1 Pet. 1:25), that the Apostles' successors were to teach what they have "heard" (2 Tim. 2:2), and that Christian teaching is passed on both "by word of mouth [and] by letter" (2 Thess. 2:15; 1 Cor. 11:2).
(4) Not everything Christ did and said is recorded in Scripture (Jn. 21:25).
(5) New Testament authors availed themselves of sacred Tradition. For example, Acts 20:35 quotes a saying of Jesus that is not recorded in the Gospels.
(6) Scripture needs an authoritative interpreter (Acts 8:30-31; 2 Pet. 1:20-21, 3:15-16).
(7) Christ left His Church with divine authority to teach in His name (Mt. 16:13-20, 18:18; Lk. 10:16).
(8) The Church will last until the end of time, and the Holy Spirit protects the Church's teaching from corruption (Mt. 16:18, 28:19-20; Jn. 14:16).
(9) The Church — and not the Bible alone — is the "pillar and bulwark of the truth" (1 Tim. 3:15).
(10) The Bible refers to more sources of the Word of God than only Scripture. Jesus Himself is the Word (Jn. 1:1, 14), and in 1 Thess. 2:13, St. Paul's first epistle, he refers to "the Word of God which you heard from us." There St. Paul is clearly referring to oral apostolic teaching.

You couldn't be further from the truth.
You need to search the science groups for the answers
I guess for me, I got tired after a while of explaining stuff. I knew no matter what I said, unless someone reads it for themselves, they won't believe a word I'm saying.
So to save time, I would just say it's in the bible. If anyone was really interested, there is alot of proof out there scientifically that proves alot of what's in the bible. The problem is it's not publicized as much as other stuff. Just look it up and you'll see.
There are many available, but here's one for starters. If anyone is interested they will look for their own answers.

You should have worded it, when will people realize that truth lies in the Bible, and when people come accept this truth they too will live in love, joy and true happiness?
Thanks for the opportunity to spread the Gospel of Christ.
By the way those who study the Bibles historocity are learning that it is more true than what they imagined and have converted to at least believing the salvation story embedded in it, why dont you?

I dont think that the answers supported by the bible is necessarily or exactly wrong but to a logician or philosphers point of view. The answers based on bible is fixed and cant be questioned to the point that is does not welcome reason or physical answers. But sadly my friend some people use answers in the Bible in wrong or misinterpreted questions.

When they learn some rhetoric skills and realize that they're making a circular argument and that the argument they're posing is very easily torn down by simply asking: Which "Bible," which translation, did you consult the Aprocrypha, do you go to church because it says not to do that in the bible too.

Soon I hope... I am tired of every answer to a logical question being "the bible said so, and its god's word" It completely stymies any opportunity for a logical discourse.... and as you said carries no weight whatsoever from an intellectual standpoint.

I fear the masses will never get it. The stories of the bible, or as I call it the best selling work of fiction in recorded history, are supposed to be allegorical. However we do face stupidity of epic proportions these days, so don't hope for these people to be enlightened any time soon.

Yes, I have noticed that too. Some people have a lot of faith and believe what the Bible says and take the Bible as proof, while others want scientific proof. It comes down to what kind of person the answerer is; a logical person or a spiritual person.
