is in the mind of the believer, i.e Christians believe in Jesus because it "makes sense" to them for whatever reason. Muslims believe in Allah because it makes sense to them. The only things that can be proven completely true (for the most part) are things that can be proven through complete scientific or logical study. Religious belief is a matter of faith and the opinion of the believer. This being said, why is religious tolerance so difficult to practice? I personally do not ask someone to think as I do. I can't expect someone to believe what I believe JUST BECAUSE I SAY SO. Just because faith can't be proven right or wrong, doesn't make it wrong.

So here's what I would like to see answered: WITHOUT using your spiritual guidebook to do so, what kind of factual proof can you offer about your faith. I am Pagan and know and accept I can not give you Proof of fact, only my personal experiences. Because of this, it's right for me, but I don't expect it to be right for others.

The reason I stipulate you can't use your spiritual guidebooks is because the guide books of each faith are a matter of opinion of several people regarding the events in question. They do not state fact, only one persons opinion of fact. Opinions are neither right nor wrong they just are.

To no-name: Did YOU hear Jesus say this? Your key word in your answer is FAITHFULLY. Faith is based on opinion, not fact. Otherwise you could say FACT IS...I'm sorry, you missed the point of the question...nice try though. I accept that you believe in Christianity and Jesus, this does not mean I have to.

For those who have done so, please do not assume I'm something/someone I'm not. If you want to know what faith I practice, ask me! My email is readily available to all.

Religious truths are our inner truths and no one can judge what we hold deep within ourselves. All spiritual truths are mysterious and can produce only models of a reality which cannot be measured. There is no way I can offer proof of my own faith to you. I can explain to you WHY I follow the path I am on and the journey that I have taken to get here. My inner truths are what keep me connected to The Divine and that is good enough for me.

Bright Blessings to you!

Well, I am not really sure what your question is, but I believe as you say what makes sense to me. (However,I don't think the for whatever reason was a needed addition) I don't think science holds all the truths, and if I go by logic, it makes sense to me that logically, there has to be someone or something that could produce the universe. As a pagan, I would not expect you to understand or believe in miracles or "answered prayer".. Just as science has its flaws, personal faith is just that, faith that exists based on the personal knowledge and experiences that we each hold. I know that Jesus existed, I know that Mohammed existed, so I don't know what other proof of existance you want.
However, that being said, religious tolerance is difficult to practice, because on both sided there is often conflict. "Why should I tell you about my faith, if you are not going to listen?" "Why should I try to learn about another faith that isn't mine?" So, fear of the unknown is a factor in the equation.
If everyone tried to understand the basic premises of other faiths, it would make religious tolerance easier to practice.
To FD...so much for your 'corrupt and diluted book'..God told the people that He would "write His word upon their hearts".. What is the Bible, but an instruction book for living a life of love and morality? That is the basic truth that equates all religions.

Peace be with you.

Over 500 people saw Jesus walking the earth after His crucifixion. That is not just a few people saying something. Also many people saw the ghosts of their dead forefathers walking the earth also. Jesus set the captives of Satan free when He went into the earth for 3 days.

Josephus documents these facts and Pliny the Elder and others. You have historians documenting the life of Jesus Christ as well as the disciples and followers.

Sorry my friend, too much historical fact about Jesus. He split time in two, i.e. BC / AD. The Bible which you call spiritual guidebook is the most contested book ever written and it stands today after many thousands of years. If you want to know one of the ways I hold strong to my faith - THE JEWS. Also, I'll match the prophets of the Holy Bible against any other people who predict the future. Fulfillment of their prophesies are still coming true. Even though they prophesied over 2000 years ago.

I follow Christ Jesus and I am a Christian.

I believe the bible and other religious books to be part of the 'get rich quick' scheme of the 1400's. I personally am agnostic and have explored several religions as well as pagenism. If these books were so almighty and powerful then why did it take so many years to gain popularity? They never really came about until the 1400's and when they did it was like poof here they are. If these books are so almighty and powerful then why are there so many different interpretations of them, even within one single religion? I don't find that there is any scientific proof of any relgion or of any higher power. I'm the type of person who likes to have evidence in front of me before I belive something, thus making me agnostic. I have seen miracles happen but why or how I don't know. I also find it ironic that at the time when these books were "discovered" that the male role was dominant and so then their "god" became a male also, as is the case in Christianity, Judism, and Muslims. Just something to ponder.

Religious truth can be in the mind of the believer (but then, so is all truth, in a sense).

Religious truth is not necessarily however JUST in the mind of the believer.

Within Biblical Christianity, Faith is not Blind Faith, but rather Trust in the Christian God, based on relationship and history of interaction with Him.

Christian Faith is Rational and is consistent with Reason (does not contradict reason).

I fully support religious tolerance (which includes the right for us to dialog with each other, to say this is why I believe what I believe).

Cordially,
John

I didn't believe - or not believe for many years. I had seen several doctors and due to severe injuries inflicted on me @ 17, it was verified child bearing was not an option. I miscarried @ age 21 and my mother told me to turn to God. My faith changed when I placed a "fleece" in front of God. "If you exist - give me a child". It was verified within two weeks that I was pregnant. I delivered a baby girl with no problems. The doctors could provide no explanation. They again all stated this was a fluke and would not be repeated - the scar tissue was to severe. Three years later I had a son.
The facts were that, medically, child bearing was not an option. This was verified by specialists in different clinics/hospitals. We tried anyway - with no luck. The doctors kept telling us "I told you so". Yet, when I turned to a God that people said did not exist, I got pregnant (TWICE!!). The doctors told me after each child that there was no medical explanation as to how I managed to carry the child full term, much less how did I conceive to begin with.
I asked, He answered, I believe.

Unfortunately, so many people are not paying attention to their own thought processes, that few are able to imagine that your premise is true. By your premise, I mean that the statement that the reason people believe anything is because that's how they see it based on some personal experience and that's exactly the same reason people who don't agree with them don't agree. They also don't seem to notice that as time goes by, they learn and grow, thereby making what they used to see incomplete, and therefore incorrect. If they noticed that they had been incorrect before, many times, because they learned and grew, it would seem to follow that it is likely they are wrong now, since experience tells us they will learn and grow again. The only people who do not learn and grow are dead. Obviously that's conjecture.

I find that many things in the Bible are analoguous to things I find in life and in the universe. Nature itself testifies that there is a God. The Bible gives evidence to show that God is a trinity. I find that time is a trinity; future, present, and past. Space is a trinity; x, y, and z coordinates. Matter is a trinity; energy, movement, physical phenomena. Man is a trinity; nature, body, personality. Moral action is a trinity; motive, act, consequence. So many fundamentals of the physical universe and life itself are a reflection of the character of the one triune God.... and all herein is only the beginning.

Star for you!

We seem to agree, we each have to find our own way. What is right for one will not work for another. Square peg, round hole.

*edit: I find J's answer very interesting, I have spent the last 5 years as a Christian, yet I question most of the bible and doubt that Christianity is the ONLY way. Most of the Christians on here tell me that I am not really Christian at all. I wonder what he would have to say. I am after all questioning my own religion, it just happens to be his too. Would that make doubt and questioning wrong, because it's his religion?
