Kind of odd that people would think that married priests would reduce child abuse, considering that the single largest group of child abusers is married men. Also considering that the few priests who have committed sexual acts with adolescent boys are homosexuals, and would therefore not marry a woman even if allowed to. Also considering that more than 99% of priests have never been involved in any such crimes, yet are also celibate. There was good reason why the Apostle Paul so strongly recommended that full time ordained ministers of God remain celibate as he himself was, lest they be "divided" between the responsibilities of ministry and the responsibilities of marriage and family. I wonder if inattention to this important principle in God's Word is the reason Protestant ministers have one of the highest rates of divorce.

One who becomes a Latin Rite priest vows to God not to marry and remain celibate throughout his life. Other Catholic Rites allow marriage for priests. Of the 23 Rites 22 allow marriage for the priests. Protestants allow married clergy and the Orthodox Church allows married priests.
I am a married priest of the Polish National Catholic Church and am married with four children and six grand-children.

The Church incorrectly mixes Missionaries with Priest. Missionaries were expected to travel to distanced lands making it difficult to be married where a priest stays at one place. The Church does not follow bible teachings.
CATHOLIC TRADITION - Forbidding the priesthood to marry.
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS -
1) It is devilish to forbid God's people to marry when He has given marriage to be received with thanksgiving.
1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
2) Peter was married (remember the pope is supposedly continuing the apostolic line through Peter).
Matthew 8:14 And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever.
Mark 1:30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
Luke 4:38 And he arose out of the synagogue, and entered into Simon's house. And Simon's wife's mother was taken with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
3) Paul, a great apostle, remained single; however he made it very clear that he could marry if he wanted to.
1 Corinthians 9:5 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?

In Biblical times, priest, ministers, could be married. In Matthew 8:14-15 Peter was already married when he met Christ (his mother-in-law was healed):
"And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them."
Paul says in 1Corinthians9 :5
"Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?"
This clearly says the other apostles and brethen in Christ had wives.
In 1Timothy 4:1-3 we are also warned of those that would forbid marriage:
"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth."
What is more, there are thousands of married Christian ministers who serve God and his body of believers, with the blessing of the Holy Spirit. So get married and serve God as a priest, if he so calls you. Peace and amen.

I think if alot more Priests had a wife, there would be alot less child abuse in the Church !
I also think a married Priest has more empathy and understanding, and are more balanced, than unmarried Priests.... a woman/wife would be muchly beneficial to all concerned !
Blessings.

If you mean "work with women," then yes.
Eastern Orthodox and Protestant clergy can be married, and Roman Catholic priests can sometimes be married (under special circumstances). Eastern Orthodox priests must get married before ordination or stay single.

European priests and their flock are much more in tune with their churches mistakes of the past, from the purges of Jews and inquisitions to more recent scandals.
In my opinion European communities are more "community" oriented and involved with the church, whereas in the US church is like fast food drive through: you go, you get, you consume it, and you go wherever you are going next.

Catholic Priests take a vow of celebancy when they become priests...they cannot marry, they cannot have sex with a woman...unfortunately, often, they have sex with children..far too often. Women are constantly attracted to what they cannot have..and priests are very often targets of such women....very silly, to say the least. Catholics are the only church that has this rule. Other religious priests are allowed to marry.

I don't know anything about orthodox churches, I only know the bible. The bible says that all who believe in Jesus Christ are priests and we can all marry. Follow God's laws, not man's.

God says a priest could get married if he so pleases, but the church says no. Who would you listen to?
