Every time society predicts the end of the world, it isn't, and then we pick a new date. I read that every century and year with a symmetrical number brings about hysteria. So like 1800 had people freaking out, and 1900 had people freaking out. I remember people saying that it was the end during 1999, 2000, and 2001 because of the millennium, and then 2002 because it's so symmetrical. I was burned out on the concept by then. I remember news articles about it and even a rap song about it and this old guy I talked to obsessing about it. And then 06/06/06 (the day the remake of The Omen was released) because people thought that it was six years since Christ had risen, and not 2006 years after Christ had risen. Pesky #20. Now everybody’s chomping at the bit over 2012 because that’s when the Mayan calendar ends. My coworker went ON and ON and ON about it and I quietly thought that she was a freak. But what year will spell the end of the world as we know it after 2012?

I didn't ask when the actual end-of-the-world is. Some of you have a bible where your brain should be.

Let me be the first to predict it, the next predicted end of the world will be 2033, because it's 2000 years after Jesus' resurrection. After that, I think it will then change to the more general "any day now" and christians will just be warned to be ready. Many of them are already burned out and are starting to believe that the bible does not predict when it will happen, and eventually all of the old theists will die and be replaced by newer theists that will have different views. The only places where I can outright say that things may not change are the more rural areas of the U.S. Not that they aren't intelligent, but they have such a limited world view. The more of the world a person sees, the more they realize that their way of thinking is not the only way of thinking.

Once this next promised dead-day passes, people may become acustomed to such beliefs and start to pay less and less attention to them. No religious leader that wishes to keep its congregation will ever get behind such predictions. They know it runs counter to their actual goals and may damage their credibility when the day comes and goes and Jesus again fails to show up. It won't stop the "wars and rumors of wars" end time rantings from pastors, they just won't commit to a date.

the reason why everyone says that the world will end in the year 2012 is because the Mayans have predicted many things that came true. The world will end metaphorically speaking; meaning that the world will change, but it won't explode or anything like that, there's going to be changes that's all. According to Mayas we are living in the Fifth Sun(fifth age) and on December 21, 2012 we will enter the Sixth Sun(sixth age). People are naturally stupid and misinterpret and exaggerate things. The next end of the world date will be 2020, because its symmetrical

No wait a minute, that is the "worlds" answer to what life is.

Well, alot of money is made off of predictions such as this.
Look at it this way, the world has nukes. The world is gaining momentum to use them. This is really the first time in History that the world COULD REALLY eliminate itsself.
BUT, Jesus is not agonna let that Happen.
The "End of the World" according to the "World" is not going to happen the way most of the world thinks or even be the same things as utter destruction of everyone and everything.
Ditto...........don't know when.....

The Mayans do not believe the world will end on that day! They believe that time moves in circles. They have no concept of the "end of time" or of the "end of the world". That idea came from non-Mayans trying to interpret the Mayan calender. Non-Mayans understand the Mayan concept of time about as well as pigs understand Sundays.

The cute part is always how people even claim it as an absolute truth.

I wonder how many of those people today are still afraid the world would end on 06/06/06. (yes, I know that makes no sense, but neither do people who claim to know the date the world will end)

I remember one in about 1992, in Sydney. I think it was something about some great big space ship coming to take the chosen away, then the usual death, destruction, mayhem afterwards.

I'm good with 2050 - any time from September onwards. I'll be 80 then, if I make it, so I reckon I'll be ready for a bit of a change!

I agree with you, it seems every so often there is a new end of the world. I think it is just the psychological obssesion by mankind with death. So much so, we have tried to predict it, make it the begining of a second life, and much more according to each culture. The world ends when we end it, and yes we will get there eventually with the harm we are causing to the world.

The bible says no one knows the day or the hour so its pointless to try and guess the date.
