How many people would believe in evolution if Darwin had not written the Orgins of Species? (No cop-outs, answer truly. If he didn't write it, how could you still believe.)

I was in Menai Bridge many years ago, playing Crown Green Bowls when a thunderstorm struck.

I say 'struck' for the following reason.

I was standing next to another man, sheltering from the heavy rain. We were both under a canopy outside the Bowling Hut.

As the playing area was one that was well drained, there was no suggestion that play was over and it was a very interesting evening.
We were standing about two feet apart when a bolt of lightning hit the paving stone between us, sending a chunk of the concrete through a window of the hut behind us.

We were both badly shaken but unhurt.

Was this Divine Intervention?

Is it because you are trying to make believers become atheist by "discrediting their faith" and if so do you believe you are successful?

in light of being created evil from the get go.

Remember God said that he created not only light but darkness as well in Isaiah 45:7, as well and that he was a murderer from his conception or from the beginning as John wrote that Jesus said, in John 8:44.

there are only 3 countries right now at war.which is Iraq and Palestine and southern Sudan. are people forgetting that there are a ton of other countries in the middle east? generally middle eastern countries have lower homicide rates than London and Detroit. isn't it sad how people listen to everything they hear and see on TV.

and please for bashers if you never been to the middle east don't bother answering.because you can't insult a place unitl you have been there yourself

The Egyptians held their belief for something like 3,000 years. Various Greeks, Zoroastrians and, Mithrans were also serious about their faith. And there is nothing about theirs that was MORE weird, far out or supernatural than yours. Either call all of it religion or call all of it mythology; they are the same.

We never see any miracles these days, like the parting of the Red Sea or talking snakes or anything like that. We never see him create any new kinds of living organisms. We only have claims about things that are supposed to have happened thousands or millions of years ago. Why is that, do you suppose?

I find I drift towards a full 8 hours of sleep when left to my own devices. Modern living often forces me to make do with 7 or less, but I make up for that in the weekends with longer downtime. I rarely remember my dreams but I usually wake well-rested and fit.

You?

I had a friend whose aunt was a Catholic nun. She was a missionary (I think in PNG, but don't quote me) and was staying with us for a while before taking my friend off to visit the mission. The sister was a very funny, approachable and understanding woman, by the way. She was well aware "someone like her" was far out of the experience of a bunch of Uni students in inner-city Sydney and went out of her way to make sure she knew we were doing our best to be as respectful and appropriate as possible.

Anyway, the thing that I've always found odd is that when she was saying goodbye, this nun kissed all the males on the cheek, and shook hands with all the women. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I mean I don't know if it was just her, or if there's any "deeper" meaning behind it...just curious...

The family of five in front of me in a long McDonald's line. They chatted animatedly, whiled away the time, and then had NO FREAKING CLUE what to order when they got to the front.

If I had a Taser, and less self control, they'd have been mine.

It seems like the amount that you are likely to suffer in life is heavily determined by where God allows you to be born?

Why does he allow such unfairness?

If the universe is 6,000 years old, why can we see galaxies that are hundreds of millions of lightyears away?

If an object is 200 million lightyears away, it will take 200 million years for it's image to reach us.

When radio telescopes look at the furthest reaches of space, they are looking back in time.

Did God create everything with an image of a non-existent distant past in transit to Earth just to make things look more complete?

Did Satan set it all up to make us stray from the path?

So what would be so bad about God taking away the suffering of the child?

It's a pretty weird suggestion.

Love is something that has been now studied very effectively.

The hormones released in the brain and their impact are well documented as are the different stages of love and the resulting hormonal balances.

This dosen't make my love for my wife any less important.

I understand that the word love is quite abstract any can be used in many ways.

But isn't saying "God is love" taking it a bit too far?

Isn't it just a feelgood copout for people that want to cling to a belief in a creator but don't feel easy with the fire and brimstone stuff?

I just found an article from "Creation" magazine which spells out plainly that Darwin did NOT recant and embrace Christianity on his death-bed. It was written by one Russell M. Grigg, a Creationist Chemist (!) and Missionary, in 1995.

I know, outrageous! If anyone wants me I'll be recovering in the corner...

and if so, how can you "love" someone you've never met in the flesh?

isn't it just meaningless to profess otherwise? and if that's true, what do you really get out of God's love?
