Is it because you are trying to make believers become atheist by "discrediting their faith" and if so do you believe you are successful?

I am not saying atheist do not have the right to be here and no I am not weak in my faith or "insecure". All I wanted to know was their motives for being here. People can challenge my faith all they want, it will not change it. I know I could have looked at previous answers, but I decided to ask myself, hey, people are answering it aren't they?

I'm not trying to convert anyone. I just like a little spirited debate. I think the believers like that we are here too. It adds to the diversity of this section.

Can I get an "Amen" from the believers? ;-)

I am not an atheist, but can understand why they do come to this section. They do not have one of their own! There's a possibility that SOME atheists may be interested in seeing what religion is all about--as they may not have been raised in any faith.

Of course, some come on just to rile people up--sometimes I don't know whether or not to believe that all people who claim to be atheists actually are--or just trying to stir things up. In any case, they have the right to answer and ask questions in any category they wish--just as you and I do.

Personally, I think that atheists should stick to the science category--but they are allowed to ask and answer in any category they wish. They know that if they get out-of-line someone will report them.

Atheists are on this forum because an antithesis is directly related to a thesis. Many atheists are here because they're being affected daily by religious beliefs and wish to discuss them.

I'm not a Christian, but I'm constantly influenced by Christianity; from the woman pointing to my pentacle and saying to me "Jesus is better", to the obnoxious man who stands on a milk-crate with a megaphone at a town fair and starts moaning on about how we're all sinners, to the religious right trying to outlaw homosexuality.

As religion is impactful to all, even those who do not practice it, it is justified to address it. If you are bemoaning the fact that atheists have some negativity toward the religious, or that Pagans have some negativity toward Christians, I offer this: the next time you see one of us on a soap-box at a town fair, or the next time you are accosted by one of us while leaving a grocery store, or the next time you see one of us leaving a tract at your home, or preaching in a subway, please let the rest of us know here.

Christians (as a whole) in the world are much louder and confrontational by far. Perhaps if they weren't, the acrimony might dissipate a bit.

Insecure much?

This question has been asked repeatedly here. I recommend doing some reading of the previously posted questions.

EDIT: Having seen some of the goading that goes on in R&S . . . it's clear to me that you knew several atheists would not be able to resist your question. I believe that's why you posted it and put "atheist" in your question. I'm not saying you shouldn't have posted it. I'm just saying that if you really wanted to know, you could have done some of your own reading.

Personally, I find the question itself lacks neutrality. And I didn't feel like answering another goading question. Maybe I'm interpreting it differently than you intended it. But I've found that most questions like this are just out to continue the silly bickering that goes on in R&S, and I called you out on it. That's all.

Had this been another day, I might have participated in it. Just not today. :)

This is the Religion & Spirituality section.
Many Atheists have spiritual beliefs, and very strong ones, without the belief in a god. But whether they have spiritual beliefs or not, where else, do you suggest, can they ask questions concerning their beliefs?
I do wish that this section was broken up into pieces. Religion & Spirituality covers such a wide field of beliefs that all this friction and fighting is bound to happen.
I wish YQ&A would break this forum up into sections.

Just want to say that if you look at the answers you get from atheists, you see just how intolerant they are. They do not[as one guy said]want spirited debate. They denigrate Believers. If they truly wanted honest debate, they would ask intelligent and well-thought-out questions.Such is not the case. And for the person who said "get off your high horse"...it is clear she has hostility to anyone questioning an atheist.Your question was not offensive at all.

No - it is because you do not seem to realise that question go out on the general list!!!!

Atheists do not believe in a god - any god - not just yours.

Surely it is you who cannot live with anyone who does not share your faith - what a sign of weakness!!!

If I were you I would slip into church and pray as soon as possible and seek your pastors advice on how not to make good Christians look ridiculous with such silly questions!!!!!

Why does it matter? I find it funny how people will literally debate any topic without a problem, but when someone questions their belief system, it's considered out-of-line. Atheists have the right to question your belief system, just as you have the right to question theirs, just as we all have the right to question the government, etc. etc. Questioning brings answers, and answers, good or bad, will help us all get a better understanding.

Christian, why are you on this on this forum.?

Is it because you are trying to make atheists become Christians by "discrediting their unbelief" and if so do you believe you are successful?
