If the universe is 6,000 years old, why can we see galaxies that are hundreds of millions of lightyears away?

If an object is 200 million lightyears away, it will take 200 million years for it's image to reach us.

When radio telescopes look at the furthest reaches of space, they are looking back in time.

Did God create everything with an image of a non-existent distant past in transit to Earth just to make things look more complete?

Did Satan set it all up to make us stray from the path?

I love my fellow Christian brothers and sisters but this really drives me nuts. The creation story in the Bible is an allegory. It isn't the literal truth and it doesn't have to be. No creationist is going to be able to answer this because there is no answer to support this wrong-headed belief.

Some creationists like to spew that the everything is only approx. 6000 years old. Yet if one is to study the Bible carefully, basically the universe already existed. Even the Earth was a formless wasteland before God began his work on it. Genesis mentions that it took God 6 days to create the world. These are not six literal days that we know of. Each God-day could have been millions of years each. Humans were the last ones to be created. One could say that humans have been around for approx. 6000 years though, if one were to calculate Adam and Eve's lifespan and the lives of their descendents, according to the Bible. Is this true? No one really knows.

Not all creationists are young earth creationists. A creationist is just somebody who believes God created everything, whether 15 billions years ago or 6 thousand years ago.

When God created our Galaxy it was complete, like our circulatory and nervous system--the pathways were complete. So, the light God created would have to be complete for them to be for "signs and seasons"

Of course He creatd it His way, not the way people theorize.

Many Christians believe in theistic evolution--God messed with us for millions of years, but the Bible is adamate, Adam fell and Jesus has redeemed the earth.

There is a Bible code that explains God's plan to restore Earth to its original perfection. The "key" to break the only part of the Bible, "closed until the end of the days" is at www.revelado.org/revealed.htm.

It will teach you much more than any preacher will

My question is, what proportion stars could there be interior the sky if the Universe replaced into, certainly, basically 6000 years previous? it can be a exceptionally empty sky, does no longer it? The farthest action picture star we are able to make certain with out tips from a telescope is over sixteen,000 easy years away.

You raise an excellent argument, I wish I had thought of it myself.. Too bad no creationist will be able to debate your statement logically and rationally... It wont happen they avoid really good points like the one you are making and refuse to actually really and truly answer.... they cant, they are wrong from the beginning. The only answers you will get will be illogical in comparison with your question.. and not even good enough to spark a debate.

Look at the answer from One-Way and See The Light. They can't even get simple definitions like "galaxy" and "light year" correct. What do you expect?

Edit: and what Kelly C said.

I am not sure if you really understand what is the light year. I think you mix up the time and the distance.

If you are willing to go the distance, why cannot you understand that God is not limited like we are. He can create things aged. Time and distances are not any obstacle for Him. He is behind of this whole operation, we can never totally comprehend it. : )
