My best friend who has never known God until lately has surrendered her life to Christ and has joined the Catholic church. She has few people including her husband who are supporting her because frankly they are somewhat ignorant. In the south the Baptist seem to think that Catholic's are doomed to hell which I think is ridiculous. She is being confirmed into the church Saturday night at the mass "vigil" and has asked me to join her as her support person. I know something of the services as I am United Methodist and we are not that far removed from Catholic's. My question is what do they do at the service? I know it is her first communion. Is there anything I should do ro say to her or is it just the support of watching her confirmed that she needs. This is very important and I want to be there to support her and welcome her into the family of Christ.

No other religion on the face of the earth would commit murder over a picture or a cartoon that offends them, does this not make Islam by far the most dangerous religion on our planet?

Why can't we just ban the abaya and niqab? The Azerbaijanis have banned it. The Israelis have banned it. The Tunisians have banned it. And Turkey, the one Muslim democracy in the world (albeit a junk democracy) has banned it. Why can't we just ban it? I'm tired of seeing sixteen-and-seventeen-year-old girls dressed like ninjas. Black abaya for the body, black hijab for the hair, black niqab for the face, sunglasses, a black screen or tiny slits for the eyes, black gloves...It intimidates me. It's sickening. It's like, welcome to thirteenth century Pakistan.

Many of you have said that atheists are more intelligent than theists. Give me a logical or scientific explanation to the following:

Why were there primitive life forms on earth?
Why is it that no primitive tribe has been found that does not have a moral conscience? A moral sense of right and wrong?
Why is that all primitive tribes that have been discovered know the Golden Rule? "Do to others as you would want others to do to you."
Why is it that all primitive tribes that have been discovered have a concept of God or Gods?

How do you explain the beauty, order, and irreducible complexity of our world and the universe?

Please do not say these questions belong to some other section, because if you do I will conclude that you can't face the fact that God was behind all of the above. Be honest. Examine your conscience before answering them. A scientific explanation is not really required, unless you want to make one.

and kind, even if there were no incentive/reward.

for me as an atheist, kindness is it's own reward.

Because it tends to lead to them either getting upset because science offers evidence of things contrary to what they believe, or it can be interpreted by them as being sacreligious & offensive.

Plus the religious used to burn scientists on the stake for blastphemy, heresy, or being a witch- holding back technology unnecessarily. So why should the scientific community support people who follow traditions which have lead to that?

I suppose you could argue that everybody deserves to be given the chance to realise that religion is bs designed to keep the masses submissive and in check.

At one stage in my life I found the term 'fear' strange because I knew him as my loving Father. But I've also learned that he is to be respected. When I read some of the postings on this site I do indeed grow cold with fear for the sake of the people who are so totally reckless.

I found this in my Bible last night:
31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

But also:
22Be merciful to those who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear.

And:
God our saviour, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

24To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

If you don't believe, shouldn't you at least look into the possibility that all this is true?

What do you think?

"Death is certain, it's hour uncertain."

Well then, you could die tommorow, next year, in ten years, or maybe even today.

Do you appreciate what you have now and are you willing to let go of them?

they are aren't they? Some say we aren't suppose 2 speculate, some say we aren't suppose2 feel, some say we are 2 rely on mere grace. Some think we aren't suppose2 even jewelry. Some think transfusions are wrong! They say things about others in a twisted way. They don't give the exact verses & exact chapters. If I say somethings in the bible I give the exact verse or at least say what chapter it is in. If I'm not sure where a certain verse is I say so. If we aren't 2think for ourselves, if we aren't 2feel, if we aren't permitted 2 adorn ourself, if we can't speculate about things, we would be in the dark ages still we might as well be robots! Robots that's exactly ? the devil what's us2be so it can steal our soul. The devil would take it saying he or she isn't using it. just look paying more attention 2image than spirit that's real vanity! Chptr 2 Exodus : ? shalt thou gain if thou gain the world & lose thy soul (spirit)!

Let say that one day, for some reason you'll no longer be around here at Y/A R&S.

Being a regular, it should be that you are known to a number of people. So, how would you want people to say about you if anyone asked?

For example, "There's this one guy who goes by the name of Adia Arek, he used to tell jokes and stuff. Yep. Too bad he left a couple of months ago."

"There was this guy, Mahal. He was really annoying, he'd attack anyone, then publicly questioning them like posting personal questions directly to them. Being a level 6 and all, figures."
