At Revelation 9:11, however, the word “Abaddon” is used as the name of “the angel of the abyss.” The corresponding Greek name Apollyon means “Destroyer.” In the past century there were efforts made to show that this text prophetically applied to individuals such as Emperor Vespasian, Muhammad, and even Napoleon, and the angel was generally regarded as “satanic.” It should be noted, however, that at Revelation 20:1-3 the angel having “the key of the abyss” is shown to be God’s representative from heaven, and rather than being “satanic,” he binds and hurls Satan into the abyss. Commenting on Revelation 9:11, The Interpreter’s Bible says: “Abaddon, however, is an angel not of Satan but of God, performing his work of destruction at God’s bidding.”
In the Hebrew scriptures just considered, it is evident that ´avad•dohn' is paralleled with Sheol and death. At Revelation 1:18 we find Christ Jesus stating: “I am living forever and ever, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.” His power with regard to the abyss is shown at Luke 8:31. That he has destroying power, including the power of destruction over Satan, is evident from Hebrews 2:14, which says that Jesus partook of blood and flesh in order that “through his death he might bring to nothing the one having the means to cause death, that is, the Devil.” At Revelation 19:11-16 he is clearly represented as God’s appointed Destroyer or Executioner.

It seems like every time I ask any question about Hinduism, I inevitably get the ones who use my question as an opportunity to preach Christianity to me.

I respectfully ask those who do this:
1. Do you feel that perhaps this is the only time I might ever hear the "word"?
2. Do you feel that constant mention of Jesus will make me stop and reconsider my religion?
3. Why do you do this?
4. Do you really believe this is an effective way to evangelize?

Thanks.

I have seen various people ask questions about atheism and evolution and it always causes people to say stupid crap and get off topic. I have a question that I honestly want answered. It is not a shot at atheists it is a question. Frederick Hoyle is a famous mathematician who said the chances for one cell to form with the correct amino acids is about 1 in 10 to the 40000th power. Now mathematicians consider any number beyond 1 in 10 to the 50th power a mathematical impossibility. Now given this information do evolutions disregard these astronomical odds when considering evolution? How do evolutionists deal with the numbers, not the science. probability is an amazing thing and I am just trying to get some input from some evolutionists.

How would you prove that your god exists — without using arguments that someone from another religion would use to prove that his god exists, and without reference to the Bible?

In my temple, the main shrine is to Sri Venkateshwara. On the wall facing that shrine however, is a shrine to Garuda. What I have always wondered about is this: if you bow to Garuda, you are having your back then to Sri Venkateshwara. Is this ok to do?

Thanks.

Here's your chance to show it, if there is any.

Now, when I ask for evidence for Creation, I am NOT (repeat NOT) asking for all the various ways that creationists knitpick evolution (most of which are distorted or flat out wrong, may I add). I'm not trying to take words out of your mouth or back you into a corner by putting up that restriction, either. Attacking evolution does not give Creation any credit. As any student in any intro to logic class will tell you, disproving claim A does not automatically prove claim B. In other words, evolution could be wrong, in spite of all the evidence supporting it, but that would not automatically prove Creation to be true.

So...with all that having been said, do you have any evidence to show me?

I just always wondered if you can be "saved" and still go to hell.
I think if you backslide, you could. I read the bible to try to find answers and I came to the conclusion that its a yes and no answer. Yes - if you backslide and and still live in sin, and dont "abide" in him, and "no" if you keep doing what u supposed to do. Ok, I just answered my own question but sometimes I don't know where I stand, and if I will ever make it in the end and it worries me o the point that I dont want to hear anything about church, cuz seems like if you are saved but still live in sin (and it takes time to get away from it right??), or if you are struggling and almost want to give up, then you will still go to hell. Well which one is it? so if you are saved and God considers you righteous because u accepted him as you're saved, but you still sin sometimes (and im tired of asking for forgivenss) so there's no way you can go to hell then is it?? Well can you or not?? How do u know u are really abiding?

If after the rapture and the battle of the anti-christ vs jesus is won, believers believe that they will return with jesus and have a 1,000 years of peace. What is supposed to happen after that? About 10,000 years later? And where did all the non-believers go after the rapture? They all died, that's a very peaceful thought.

Well, you might say everybody does it. But according to my self-observation, in protestant churches I noticed that they leave the 'drinking' to the member's conscience. In catholic church members used to offer specially-branded alcoholic drinks to the priest..same brands endorsed by sexually-filled advertisements. i've seen it myself here in the Philippines so many times.

im aware that wine in the Bible has two meanings; and wine can be also a treatment to some diseases just like in the case of Timothy. But the Bible clearly dont want Christians to be drunkards.

Im looking for a church that totally bans alcoholic drinks and can be a ground for disfellowship. do you know one?

1st Cor 5:11-12 "I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named A BROTHER BE..A DRUNKARD...put away the wicked man from among yourselves."

I am curious...I see so many of you say that you don't follow any church - you just follow the Bible and Jesus. However, if you DO fellowship at a church, and listen to a preacher, pastor, elder, etc...then how can you say that you don't follow a 'denomination'? Because if you're listening to another, you ARE following something. And, if you do not attend a fellowship such as a church, and you read the Bible on your own and say that the Holy Spirit is guiding you...tell me this - is our God a God of confusion, since you all come up with different interpretations? Thank you for your answers.

Sometimes it is hard to keep your footing in this forum, especially when we have so many groups all lashing out at one another. There are a few people (no names) I wonder about. Do you think some people come here for the specific purpose of getting a "rise" out of the "opposition"...of course, sooner or later someone will lash back, and they'll get all defensive, crying "you started it"

I've seen a lot of people mocking faith in a creator and faith in general. I can understand that. What I can't understand is how particles to people evolution requires any less faith. There is no more proof of the Big Bang Theory than the 6 days of Creation Theory. None of us were there. There are no pictures. No written record. It seems to me both require a certain amount of faith, just in different things. There are scientists (and yes I used the word the scientists) on both sides of the debate.

The work of the hands of earthling man.
