I'm referring to the Ten Commandments. Why isn't one of the commandments against slavery, i.e., thou shalt not enslave others. Is there anything in the Bible about slavery and how wrong it is?

My girlfriend is Catholic, and since we began a serious relationship, I have visted several Catholic churches (even when she is not with me). My parents have made it well known that none of "their grandchildren are going to be raised Catholic". I understand their apprehension, but I believe they are letting their prejudices control them.

I am entertaining the idea of converting (sometime in the distant future...maybe), so I need help in getting them to overcome their distrust.

Have you ever considered looking into islam, to see if it is really the truth. Or learning more about the prophet mohammed(PBUH) Even if you don't want to become muslim, I think each and everyone has the duty to learn about him and his message.

According to Christian biographers he is placed as the number one person in hisrtory to have changed the world out of the top 100 of all time. They wanted to put jesus as number one but couldn't because jesus didn't accomplish as much.

I am not attacking you or being disrespectful, so please be respectful to me.

Many Protestants keep telling me that "ALL have sinned" (Romans 3:23; emphasis on *ALL*). Some tell me this includes babies, while others tell me that babies are not capable of sin (see links). Is it possible that Romans 3:23 should not be taken so literally? Should it be understood figuratively, such as "It was a beautiful night; we could see all the stars" (which is impossible)?

This girl I know (I will call her S) says she has the uncontrollable impulses to pray for things she doesn't want. This girl has the uncontrollable impulse to pray for the opposite of what she wants sometimes. She's not praying to anyone in particular- she just prays. And she thinks there's a supernatural force which will make these prayers come true. She says this supernatural force is controlled by anyone who believes it. She is emotionally and mentally troubled and she has the uncontrollable impulse to pray for things she doesn't want. When it comes true she gets very angry because she didn't want it to come true. She has been through much- and often she feels confused. When everything is going well she feels uneasy and she and she is not used to that because she's used to being troubled.

A Muslim man in Egypt killed his wife and then buried her with their
infant baby and 8-year old daughter. The girls were buried alive! He
then reported to the police that an uncle killed the kids. 15 days
later, another family member died.

When they went to bury him, they found the 2 little girls under the sand
- ALIVE !! The country is outraged over the incident, and the man will
be executed. The older girl was asked how she had survived.

"A man wearing shiny white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands,
came every day to feed us. He woke up my mom so she could nurse my
sister," she said.

Does anyone have any more info on this I'm really intrigued.

Many of you have said that atheists are more intelligent than theists. Prove it. If you ignore these questions and say they belong to the Science Section you are in effect ignoring the possibility of an Intelligent Designer.

Why were there primitive life forms on earth?
Why is it that no primitive tribe has been found that does not have a moral conscience? A moral sense of right and wrong?
Why is that all primitive tribes that have been discovered know the Golden Rule?
How was gravity formed?

Be honest. Examine your conscience before answering them because a scientific explanation is not really required, unless you want to make one.

I'm a Catholic... but at the same time I think that it is important to be aware of other peoples' veiwpoints. So, if it is not too much trouble for atheists if they could explain their beliefs to me (I am sure they are quite varied, though), and perhaps direct me to a few informative websites.

Thank you!

PS: Please, let's not have this question turn into a debate between religious and non-religious... Right now I merely am seeking understanding of the atheist world view, not questioning its validity.

According to this website:

http://www.meaningfullife.com/

"When a loved one dies, two powerful and conflicting emotions are aroused: sadness over the loss and confusion about the future. The sages teach us that it would be barbaric not to mourn at all, but that we should not mourn longer than necessary. A week of mourning is sufficient; otherwise, a person’s death becomes a presence unto itself, continuously saddening us and impeding our progress in life."
What do you all think? How long should one mourn a loved one?
(P.S. No one I know has died... I just wanted to get some opinions...)

I recently just got back from Chicago and stopped to see the Bahai temple while I was there. I had previously never heard of Bahai, but found the religion extremely interesting. From what I understand, Bahai combines Christianity and Islam...? Does anyone practice this, or does anyone know anything about this obscure religion? I'm already christian, but I'm just extremely curious.
