you are wrong that we are the only species that invents things. Some chimps create tools for digging out terminate mounds. Birds build nests for their young, even the small ants build underground colonies and cities. It is pretty obvious that we are not the only creatures that solve problems.

There is always going to be a more advanced species in any system. We just happen to be the most advanced. Critical thinking skills evolved as a tool for survival. There were many instances where humans were close to extinction and the most intelligent were the ones who survived. Our intelligence has allowed us to create environments to suite us even when the natural environment would be very hostile. We are one of the few who can do this and we do it on a level that is far more advanced than any species. Our social nature along with this ability has provided us with the ability to develope very complex language skills as well. Our social nature has become our greatest means of survival. This is why I am a Humanist. We are our own answer to all our problems. Myths only complicate and we can clearly see the evidence.

Free Thinkers, do not claim to have all the answers to the universe, evolution, how we got here, why we are here, all those wonderous questions we strive to understand. Instead we choose to keep an OPEN mind, to continue LEARNING new ideas, old ideas, looking at ALL the great minds of our times, ALL the big and small religions of past and present, and then collect and form oppinions and possible answers based on that knowledge. To follow one and only one idea, to live by one mans creed that best suits you is your right as a free human being(depending upon what country you live in).
However, why is it that you feel you MUST convince and sway others into believing one thing, one GOD, one way in which this GOD must be presented. I understand you feel you are "saving" those from being condemnd to a fiery hell of torment for all of eternity. Has the thought ever occured to you though that maybe just MAYBE this could be a tool for men to use to CONTROL the masses, to maintain some sort of "order" back in the day? Just a thought. I'm not saying your beliefs are wrong, I'm not like you. However the only way to grow as a human being, the only way to utilize that amazing brain of ours is to THINK & QUESTION. Do not simply accept the tails of men that has been re-written and re-written for centuries to suit a persons agenda. I am not saying your bible(if you are a christian as I am assuming), is all lies! I am saying that you need to be open to the possibilty that your GOD's word was manipulated over the centuries by imperfect mankind. You can't say that the inquisition, the crusades were NOT a mistake. Not even the pope himself says they weren't. So therefore, whomever was in power at a certain time in history had the power to alter what your sacred book, and sacred Jesus Christ taught to mankind.
Okay, so I am not answering you question directly here, I am simply defending "Free Thinkers" as you call them.
And will tell you that there are MANY explanations out there developed by great minds, scientists, philosophers alike which provide answers to your question.
You should also know that "Free Thinkers" do not always believe there is no GOD. Simply put however, they do not conform to ONE idea of who, how, where, GOD or GODS exist.
I will leave you with this one thought, is it fair to say that just because someone is born in a muslim country and therefore 95% chance he/she will also be muslim, they are condemnd to a "hell" SIMPLY because they were born in another country?

You clearly don't understand evolution. And certain Chimps use tools and also hunt with spears. Guess you don't' think Beavers don't build dams, ants don't make ant hills. Spiders don't set traps. A Octopus can figure out how to open a jar to get at pray. You said didn't have those capabilites, they are learning and as a species evolves and critical thinking helps them to survive better they will be capable of more

We are a blip on the radar of evolution. In another million years there may be hundreds of species with critical thinking skills. Just because we happen to be the "quote-unquote" smartest species around, doesn't give us any right to make up a god to justify that.

Because we are the one species to figure out how the world works. Isn't that a very important step in the path of intelligence, learning how and why things are. Our brain has evolved in successive stages. From the rhythms of life, to our aggression and social dominance to our current level of intelligence and reason.

I'm not a neuroscientist, so I can't really give you a good answer, but here is someone who is, and his take on the subject.

Personally, I think that human intelligence is the sole advantage that has kept the human race alive. As creatures we aren't very strong, we aren't very fast, we are susceptible to many diseases, we have little tolerance for the elements...heck, our spines aren't even designed for standing upright. If it wasn't for our ability to think and solve problems, we would have died out a LONG time ago.
Besides...SOME creature had to be the most intelligent of all the creatures. It just happens to be us.

humans are actually not the only mammals that can solve problems, so can many kind of apes and dolphins. Some chimpanzees can even create tools to get access to hard to reach sources of food. Dolphins can understand math and metric system. Humans are the mos develop mammals and probably the only one that can reach sophisticated levels of thinking, But remember that evolution is an ongoing process.

Well first off, I would argue the premise. Chimps have been observed doing nearly every thing primitive humans did. They even have a morality and can hunt with spears that they make. You can also see behavior in dolphins that fit. And problem solving skills are found in many animals.
We aren't all that different, and the more we look at it the more similar we find that we are.
