In about 5 billion years or so the Sun will run out of fuel. When this happens the core will collapse and the outer layer will be temporarily blown off and it will expand. This expansion will stop somewhere around the orbit of the Earth. Rather or not it engulfs the Earth, it will certainly be the end of the Earth as we know it. Then the Sun will shrink down and cool leaving whatever is left of the Solar System in the dark.

The Mayan calendar, which happens to have predicted every major occurrence during our lifetimes, ends abrubtly on December 24, 2012...
Actually, the Bible shows that not even the Son knows the date or hour, but that 'only the Father' knows. (See Matthew 24:36) Since Nostradamus is not the Father, it becomes obvious that he could not know of any timing secrets, if you believe the Bible. Notice that in verse 13, we are told clearly what we must do to become saved: endure with faithfulness until the end actually occurs. One can not simply say "I believe upon the name of the Lord Jesus!" Words alone mean nothing. Also, John 11:25 shows that we need not be overly anxious or fearful of this coming hour, because the faithful ones will be taken care of.
By the way, when the Bible speaks of the "world" passing away, it is not talking about the Earth. Rather, it is talking about the wicked people of the Earth. If you speak of the world's moral state, you do not speak of the ground and trees, but of the people. Isaiah 45:18 tells us that God did not make the Earth simply to destroy it, but to have it inhabited (by righteous people). Again, a close look at the Bible can bring comfort.

I am a believer in God and in the Bible as His Word, so I pretty much accept what the Bible says. Ultimately the world will be cast into hell, as Revelations says, but before that Christ will return to earth and set up His Kingdom, and then will destroy those who rebel against Him and will take His followers to heaven to be with Him. It is fairly complicated but in the end the world will be destroyed. It will be sometime more than a 1000 years from now since that is how long His earthly kingdom will last.

It isn't a matter of opinion,it's speculation. Nobody knows. Like anyone,I should like to think the world will tremble at my passing, but I bet when I do the World Press will just babble on like usual, probably about the Mideast Crisis ("Meanwhile, today in Tel Aviv..."). Now when I was a kid I could have just gotten bossy. I could have just told the littler kids "the world will end when I say so and not until so yuhhh..." Like is so simple when you're a kid.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
elements stoiceion in the greek, all the evil stuff is burned up. Not the earth. But this age/dispinsate of time.
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

There is no mention of the world ending in the bible, it is actually the a mistranslation of the word Aion meaning age. Correctly it should be said the end of the age. The prophecy's leading to Christ's return have passed and the Jews have returned to Israel so it could be any time now.

shortly, to end the escallateing violence the governments will ban together under the UN and turn on false religon.
They will destroy religion and those who are involved in it.
That is moments away. Then in his anger Jesus will turn on the governments and destory them and usser in a new world of peace in which he is the ruler. The new heavens is a new governmental rulership by Christ.
The new earth is a cleansed earth from all wickedness.

Only God, in Heaven, knows... But it will start with the rapture. And I don't see the rapture too far off. I, from studying the Bible, feel it will be during the night.
No whether that means my night (which is Germany's day time) or someone else's night, i do not know.
But with God, all things are possible! ;)
