Isn't the definition of "Christian" something like "one who believes in Jesus Christ"?

Does anything in scientology make sense?

ok well recently a kid from my school died so i've been trying to find this one scripture that say's "Only god can give life and take it away" or sumthing like that and i swear that it is a scripture but i can't find it any where so i'm thinking that it was an lds prophet or apostel that said it once at conference. so if you know where i might be able to find it whether it be bible/book of mormon please tell me cause i'm going crazy not knowing where it is.

I've read several messages by Jehovah Witnesses who say although their religion made errors in the past, other worshipers such as Noah, David, Moses, etc made errors.

This is misleading. All humans make mistakes, but there is a huge difference between human error and someone who makes false "predictions" in the name of God which lasts decades and misleads many.

Moses made an error which prevented him from entering the promised land. But he did not set false dates over and over which lasted for years, and caused followers of God to completely uproot their lives.

Do you feel there is a difference between the two? Why or why not? I would like to hear what others think about this? Also, if someone claims they did not receive prophecy from God, but tells others what the future holds because of their scriptural research, then sits back and allows these people to make drastic changes in their life based on this "research", is that also misleading and playing with semantics?

The bible didn't pick out it's books itself, right? A bunch of bishops came together and decided through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit which books would be in the bible, meaning the church gave us the bible... why do a lot of christians disagree with this?

what the church teaches and it's history supporting the church, but when a catholic converts to protestantism it's mostly from ignorance and not understanding what the church teaches? I have seen this happen a lot (for example with me), and a lot of protestants tell me that if I truly knew what the bible said I wouldn't consider becoming a catholic... but I think the truth is that if protestants actually knew what catholicism is and it's history and how catholicism is biblical and how the church gave us the bible they wouldn't consider being protestants... so protestants why don't you try learning about catholicism from an actual catholic source before judging it ? I did and now I'm becoming a catholic.

Not trying to be controversial, which is why I am asking only for arguments FOR this doctrine. My friend has given me several arguments AGAINST it, but I was raised to believe in eternal security. The problem is I don't have a solid defense. Verses are fine but solid reasoning would be best. Thanks!

I keep cringing when people speak of religion, what is it? is it about faith and relationship with God? or is it about rules, rituals, dressing up, putting on a mask on sundays along with the suit and tie, maybe a pretty hat for the ladies? I would like to get everybody's opinion on modesty and if the young (can be children, teen, young adult) generation is showing to much skin. I'm a teenager that is very self-conscious about the way I dress. Skirts can only be wearable if they are below my knees or at my knees, dresses are in the same guidlines as skirts. Shirts cannot have the neckline lower than my bras ( I wear mostly sport ones also), must have sleeves, and cannot be able to see my hand on the other side (white shirts are in issue with me). Many people think that I'm just to brainwashed by my parents (they guide me through life and they have a big influence on me) and that I should just let all this stuff go. But when I see so many girls wearing miniskirts ( I saw this girl wear a white mini with red underwear that the underwear was able to show from her skirt) and low neckline shirts, that I need other people's opinion. Am I to lame and boring for everybody?

I mean I thought it was funny and all but I would not really take it as a religion but apparently there are people who are taking is seriously... Its as funny as Scientology and that has a lot of followers now... 1000 years would FSM and Scientology have a religious war...

Why is america so chaotic.. nowadays..

My guess is 'coz people there became so engrossed w/ worldy things & evil has infiltrated into their sysmtem.. numerous suicides take place, pre-marital activities, murders, adulteries..
