Isn't the definition of "Christian" something like "one who believes in Jesus Christ"?

Does anything in scientology make sense?

Here are the differences between Christian science and Scientology:

Christian Science prefers to rely on "prayer, faith and spiritual healing" rather than drugs and surgery. They believe that Jesus was "the Wayshower", a proof by example of the divine method of healing sin, sickness and death. They aren't officially forbidden to accept drug treatment or undergo surgery, though most do in accordance with the Biblical interpretations and teachings of Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of the church.

Scientology does not teach any members to refuse medical treatment that would ensure their survival. The medicine Scientology opposes is psychotropic drugs (and pretty much everything from aspirin and caffeine to LSD and herion). They pretty much support only drugs that will save your life. There are no teaching which prohibit surgery or necessary treatments.

Both were founded by previously unremarkable individuals. Mary Eddy, mentioned above, was the youngest of 6 children. She developed Christian Science in 1869 after turning to the Bible, experiencing a sudden abatement of her symptoms, and coming to the conclusion that was an illusion that could be healed through a clearer perception of God. L. Ron Hubbard was a mediocre science fiction writer with an interest in the occult and in making money. He created a new self-help method (Dianetics), called it a religion and henceforth Scientology was born.

The scripture of Christian Science of obviously the Bible. They also, as mentioned previously, rely on the teachings and writing of Mary Eddy. The "scripture" in Scientology are the writings of Hubbard. What Hubbard has said and wrote is considered infallible and invaluable and NOT subject to interpretation.

Christian Scientists are generally like Christians besides the issues they have with modern medicine. They rely on the Bible, consider God and Jesus to be their personal saviors, go to church, pray, etc etc. Scientologists, on the other hand, are TOLD that believe in God is compatible with Scientology while the TRUTH is that Hubbard has stated that belief in Christ and God is an "implant", a false mental implant.

For more details as to what Scientologists believe, I suggest reading this pdf pamphlet: http://xenu.net/archive/leaflet/Xenu-Letter.pdf and reading my answer here: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070313131432AAwusjZ

Scientology subscribes to Hubbard's interpretation of "ethics". Read more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics_%28Scientology%29 Christian Scientists follows the commandments and teachings of God and Christ just like Christians.

I really do not understand how a person can say that if you do not believe in the trinity (invented at the council of Nicea in 325 A.D.) that you are not a christian. Juses was not a trinitarian, it was never coined until 300 years After Jesus (give or take a few years) time. It is a man made doctrine and contrary to the Entire new and old testament. Now, to the question at hand. Mormons have their "own" bible that they think is superior to the Bible. That is what makes them "not christian". At least Islam admits a difference. Their own Book, their own leader, and both take the diety of Jesus and slam him. A Christian is someone who is identified with Christ in death, burial and resurection. To the point. A Follower of christ and confesses that he is LORD , which is equal to GOD. Look up this scripture Genesis 27:20 KJV Who is the Lord? Genesis 27:20 KJVA Exodus 8:10 NAS There are many verses that say the Lord is God. Mormons and J.W.'s deny this, just as islam does

Scientology makes sense to me, far more so than Christian theology. And the definition of a Christian is:

“of, pertaining to, or derived from Jesus Christ or His teachings: a Christian faith.”

So now we have to determine who Jesus Christ was and what did he teach. According to the popular bible he taught this & that, but according to other scriptures he taught something completely different. Who decides what he actually taught?

Where did you get the idea that Christian Scientists don't really believe in Jesus Christ? Our religion is firmly based on his life and teachings. We fully accept the literal truth of his virgin birth, miracles, death on the cross and resurrection. We strive to live in accord with Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. We read and study the Bible daily.

I admit there are some major theological differences compared with mainstream churches in the way we interpret the Bible. But I don't see these as putting us outside of the scope of Christianity.

And Christian Science has nothing whatsoever to do with Scientology.

A lot of religions are doing this. They read the Bible, but interpret the scriptures as a guidebook for moral living. It's misleading, and someone not familiar with the core of scripture will be fooled into joining these cults and heretics.

Too many false prophets are grouped in the same category as true Saints simply because they believe Jesus existed and has teachings in the Bible, but they do not follow all of his teachings or consider him God in the flesh.

This is confusion, and proof Satan is behind it all. Confusion keeps the spiritually weak blinded and sidetracked by religious arguments. Scientology, Christian Science, Watchtower Witnesses(who call themselves "Jehovah's Witnesses) are different sects(among many), but neither are of God.

Christian Science and Scientology are two different religions.

I guess which group is Christian depends on how you define Christian. And who gets to set that criteria?

And no, nothing about Scientology makes any sense.
