Because the book they base their religion on is chock full of hypocrisies. Sleeping with your children, maiming and murdering your family, beating wives ad nauseum. They pick and choose what they need to quote at you to suit themselves. My favorite excuse they give revolves around the fact that when you bring certain things up, they say 'oh but that was the culture back then'. Newsflash, it was ALL the culture back then. It has no relevance now.

This is the kind of generalization I've come to expect from people on this forum. To begin with, I doubt that you've met "most" Christians on this planet in order to make an informed opinion.
And who are you to judge whether the ones that you have met are hypocrites? Usually those who point a finger at someone else have four fingers pointing right back at themselves.
Finally, who are you to call the Bible "bull," much less determine who lives up to its standards or not? The only B.S. I see in your post is the stuff that you're putting out as "facts," when the truth is that you offer no proof of your accusations -- not even a shred.
Clean up your own act, and then you'll have the right to criticize others. Until then, you have nothing to say that's worth listening to.

Most AREN'T hypocritical at all. No one is perfect. Don't generalize an entire religion of people. Do you honestly think that they won't make any mistakes at all? And yes, there are some hypocrits, but every ideology has them. Don't go around thinking that Christians are horrible and everyone else is just fine. Your statement that the Bible is "bull" clarifies that there is some biased thoughts running around in your head. I'd appreciate it if you got off your high horse and started looking these people in the eyes, and not down at them.
If I told you not to lie, do you honestly think that I'm going to go through my whole life and never lie about anything? No, it's not going to happen...

Higher standards are harder to live up to. Hell if ones goal in life is to get high on drugs and a boozes and sleep with as many people as passable its pretty easy to pull off. I use this example because it is these kind of people that typically level the hypocrite charges at Christians. I personally love when they say it in a public setting. I ask them the names of the Christians in particular that they are talking about, they never mention names is that not funny? A bitter Christian hater protecting all those hypocrites. Yes strange indeed.

I think everyone who walks this earth could be accused of being hypocrital if you examined their daily lives versus their professed belief system. That's why it's called a BELIEF. My relationship with God is an ongoing, one foot in front of the other journey, as I'm sure many muslims, hindus, and jews experience. A belief in God does not guarantee automatic induction into perfection. The Bible gives us a standard to live by. Many of us live trying to live up to the standard laid out therein. Many of us mess up on a daily basis. Hypocrisy entails that a person knowingly says one thing and does another. Christianity ideally makes one more aware of their shortcomings and a need for guidance from God. No one on this planet can live perfectly in line with their belief system -- we are all infallible. And I'm quite ok with my imperfection.

We are all imperfect. We all sin. My Wife and I are Jehovah's Witnesses and we try to apply what we learn from the scriptures, but because we have sin running through our blood this makes it very difficult. We don't look down on others because we are our own biggest enemy at times. The physical man verses the spiritual man. It's a constant battle. But we keep fighting to do what's right and if we are repentant Jehovah will forgive us through the Ransom sacrifice of his Son Jesus. We all need discipline and counsel so if you notice something tell the person in a loving way, hey why are you acting this way, or why did you do that?
We are all imperfect though. Jesus was perfect, we are not.

We are humans. Everyone who will try to live like the Bible teaches will appear as a hypocritical. I think it is a good thing at least to try live by God's will for us.
I know I need Jesus for my salvation. : )

Anyone can CALL themselves a Christian. The Bible tells us, "By their fruit will you know them" In other words, how they act, what they do. What do they set as an example in life to others? This is the fruit that they will be known by.
On the other hand though, we are all only human and are all sinners. Any that say that they are not are deceived. As my new friend points out in his id, FORGIVEN, not perfect, not sinless. Keep in mind though, FORGIVEN only if you are truly sorry for your sin. You can not fool God, he knows your true heart! :)

I'm NOT approving of hypocrisy, however, I do want to point out that all people probably display at least some degree of hypocrisy, for the simple fact that none of us can live up to the standards we know we should.
We can know what we ought to do, and knowing that, we can preach it. But we do not always DO what we ought to do. As long as we are honest with ourselves and others about this fact, I guess it would not be called hypocrisy.

Some reason all groups are that people use a few whaked out individuals to represent the others when those whacked out people are not like the majority.
