Well, you might say everybody does it. But according to my self-observation, in protestant churches I noticed that they leave the 'drinking' to the member's conscience. In catholic church members used to offer specially-branded alcoholic drinks to the priest..same brands endorsed by sexually-filled advertisements. i've seen it myself here in the Philippines so many times.
im aware that wine in the Bible has two meanings; and wine can be also a treatment to some diseases just like in the case of Timothy. But the Bible clearly dont want Christians to be drunkards.
Im looking for a church that totally bans alcoholic drinks and can be a ground for disfellowship. do you know one?
1st Cor 5:11-12 "I wrote unto you not to keep company, if any man that is named A BROTHER BE..A DRUNKARD...put away the wicked man from among yourselves."

i focus only to alcoholic beverages.
cris p., if being drunkard is a sin..what's the point of drinking lesser? you really misunderstood the "grace" God is bestowing us.
Rom 3:31 "Do we then make the law of none effect through faith? God forbid: nay, we establish the law."
if you received God's grace, you'll not be a lawbreaker..but you'll establish the law.
its the ceremonial laws that died with Christ on the cross.

I am a member of the Lord's church, the church of Christ (it isn't a denomination). The church of Christ is against drinking alcohol. Disfellowship someone in the church for it, I don't think it will happen.

Mormons of course. It's part of the 'word of wisdom'. We may not smoke, drink, or do anything unhealthy. Although we do eat a great deal of chocolate sometimes, it is uncommon to find Mormons who drink alchohol or take drugs; and if they do theres almost a 100% chance they aren't active.
In fact, we don't even use wine in the sacrament. Other Christians frown on this a lot of the time, but it just goes to show we won't drink it under any circumstance. We use bread and water for the sacrament.
As far as us being Christian, we do believe in Christ as the savior of our souls. Hope that helps!

The Church of jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) believe that we should not partake of achohlic beverages. We believe in the Word of Wisdom. Anything harmful to the body is against our beliefs. In The Docterine and Covenants Section 89 you can find The Word of Wisdom. (The Docterine and Covenants is like a book of revelations to the Latter-Day prophets. ) The Word of Wisdom was given to us by revelation on February 27, 1833, to Joseph Smith Jr., a prophet. You'll find when you read it it is written as a suggestion. At the time this revelation was given there were so many members who practiced things against the Word of Wisdom that almost the whole church would be "condemed" (Condemed for lack of better word) so the Lord made it as a "suggestion" (Yet again, Suggestion for lack of better word) But later actually instituted it as a commandment.

Getting drunk no.
Having a couple of drinks, no problem.
Having the law put on me, NOOOOO!
It is by grace that you are saved.
SOOOOO!
Watch out!
Gal 5:4 You have been severed from Christ, you who are seeking to be justified by law; you have fallen from grace.
Very dangerous wouldn't you say?

alcohol is actually the sacramental drink in Christianity
in Islam i think its coffee
and in Buddhism tea
apparently a "drunkard" is someone who drinks excessively
everything in moderation
nothing is good or bad per se
so dont be legalistic
jesus didnt approve of the legalistic religious people either

Islam prohibit alcohol.Countries that are 100% Muslim don't let alcohol enter the country and if they find you drinking ,they take you to jail.
P.S : Jason h, I guess you got confused, coffee isn't a sacramental drink in Islam.

You can become drunk on many more things than alcohol and some are much more dangerous. Power, money, sex, and many others. It is up to the individual not to become drunk with anything to the point they forget all law and compassion. I believe all religions teach this--or they should and plainly enough for their followers to understand.
