At one stage in my life I found the term 'fear' strange because I knew him as my loving Father. But I've also learned that he is to be respected. When I read some of the postings on this site I do indeed grow cold with fear for the sake of the people who are so totally reckless.
I found this in my Bible last night:
31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
But also:
22Be merciful to those who doubt; 23snatch others from the fire and save them; to others show mercy, mixed with fear.
And:
God our saviour, 4who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
24To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord!
If you don't believe, shouldn't you at least look into the possibility that all this is true?
What do you think?

What is to fear?
Scenario 1: There is no God. Nothing exists after death so I will not exist... so... It won't matter to me... Because I won't be anywhere.
Scenario 2: There is a God. I am judged worthy and I go to heaven. All is right with the universe.
Scenario 3: There is a God. I am judged unworthy and will go to hell. I will accept my punishment responsibly, knowing I deserve the subsequent torment. All is still right with the universe.

I didn't understand the meaning until I spent time in the Word. Like Ida points out, it is the beginning of wisdom. We need to remember that the personal God we can have a relationship with because of Christ is also the mighty Elohim.

Fearing God is the beginning of wisdom
Funny, people fear the wind at high speed which is invisible and can't be physically handled. They only see the evidence that it exist by movement in the trees or the feel of it against your face.
That is how some see God!
Amen

Only the enemies of God fear God.........................................
Who ever tells anyone to fear God, is a complete Idiot..............
Here's how to establish Your Relationship and defeat fear:
Create a private, personal, direct, divine Relationship with Our Creator and save your Soul from religion.
Only with Our Creator's Love and Peace will we be Truly Free!
Love and Believe in Our Creator;
Love and Believe in Yourself.
"religion is Spiritual fraud"; "religion is the Worse invention of humanity" - Jesus Christ, Buddha and any other being with Spiritual intelligence.
Without God, there is No Love; Without religion, there are No Wars!

I gaze into the glassy eye of your fearsome Jehovah and pluck his beard. I uplift a broad axe and open his worm eaten skull. ~ Anton LaVey.
Though I'm not a Satanist [well, religiously, philosophically I am] this quote is useful.
I do not fear your gawd, and never will.
I have my own Gods, and none of them are as immature, or pompous as yours. Yes, mine have a bloody history too, but your gawd is a demon; evil to it's core.

I refuse to live a life based on fear. I would be a hypocrite if I pretended to believe in something I know is not true.

Our father in heaven is also like our human father or vice versa. We were created in his own image anyway. If I do bad in Gods eyes,I expect he will correct me for it. This would be fear as if I knew my dad here on earth was going to get on me for something I did.And when God chastises me,I understand. It doesn't make it hurt any less.
