WARNING: This answer will offend some people, and contains unpleasant language. Reader discretion is advised.

A lot of the answers you've been getting bother me. These people seem to be using the theology found in Jeremiah (I believe) to explain away atrocities - people did something wrong and were getting punished. I'm not a Christian or a Jew, but if I were, I think I would still find that wrong.

Let's look at the holocaust for an example: Rabbi Irving Greenberg once said that no theology should be used that, "wasn't credible before the burning children." That means that if you wouldn't feel comfortable spitting out your theory for WHY these children are burning while they're burning - standing right in front of them, talking to their melting faces - then your reason is crap. Only a credible, true reason would be of any comfort to these children while their skin crisps off. Chances are, nobody has a reason that would be suitable. In a situation like that, I think the only thing any decent human being could do would be to weep, scream or look away from that kind of horror. Nobody can tell me that those millions of Jewish adults, children, senior citizens and babies deserved to die for their "sins." The God of the New Testament, especially, wouldn't condone that. This was a God of love, right? It just doesn't jive.

Given that information, there are two responses possible for this situation. You can either accept that it is IMPOSSIBLE to use a theology to rationalize the holocaust and other similar events, or you can use these events as a new theology in themselves. Either accept that atrocities should not and cannot be discussed with any credibility in the same breath as religion (for whatever reason), or accept that things like the holocaust are a new revelation from God, and that religions themselves have to change in light of this new revelation. No matter how beautiful and perfect you may think your theology OR secular ideology is, if it allows for such horrible things to occur, then it isn't working, and has to be changed.

Bad people are eventually get whats coming to them, so don't worry about that. A lot of these people are going to go through this world and not have a true understanding of what is going on, that God is real and there is a battle between good and evil for peoples souls. The rules of the game have been preset long before us, but its not really about what the atrocities are, but how the good people deal with it. Most people may believe but are not going to fully bring God into their lives and a lot simply just won't believe. God does not not love them more or less then anyone else.

We all deserve "atrocities" because we've all sinned and fallen short of God's standard. For that we deserve punishment (i.e. hell). It is only by His grace that we can avoid that. So in a sense, He helps prevent the worst thing that can happen to someone, but only if you let Him.

But God does not CAUSE suffering, that is the work of the Devil. God allows suffering to teach us lessons and becuase Satan is the lord of the earth at the present time.

It always amazes me when someone asks a question and then wants to control the response. Jesus suffered for all men on the cross. But a few hard times for a man, and that man becomes a baby. If everything were given to you, how would you ever appreciate an award? Feel me? God Bless You!

It's not a cop out. It's the truth. God could have created a world where no one suffers, everybody gets along, and life is beautiful all day long. We all would also be mindless automatons doing exactly what we were told. How would you like to live in a world like that? If you were God, and you created people so you would not be alone in the universe, is that the kind of company you would like to have? I wouldn't.

And exactly what are you doing to improve the world? God wants each of us to do His work on earth. The world is like it is precisely because that is what we have chosen. This is the consequence of our not taking action both as individuals and as a race.

The analogy of God as a parent is a good one. Parents love their children and do all they can to teach and protect them. But one day their children grow up and leave them. Some children make horrible choices but as adults, their parents can do little about it. God commanded us to love each other as ourselves. If we don't do it, that's our fault.

The 'atrocities' are obstacles we need to overcome, they are a lesson in life, allowing each person to either learn or fail...everything that happens is meant to happen, and suffering doesn't last forever, when it's someone's time to leave, they are reunited with God in heaven, where all is better.

There is no god..... but if there is that would mean that God is a pervert who likes to watch people suffer... Like a big kid burning ants with a magnifying glass, or a kid torturing a small animal. He sacrifices his "children" for the sake of a "bet" with satan over who's got more clout over humans.

And the whole child skateboarding analogy above is completely ridiculous. You would let your child "fail" at simple things to learn..... Would you allow your child to unknowingly walk in front of a man with a gun to "learn" what would happen if the man pulled the trigger with the gun in his face??

The question of why a righteous and loving God allows evil to exist is almost as old as the human race. Over 3,000 years ago, Job asked, "Why do the wicked live on, growing old and increasing in power? ... Yet they say to God, 'Leave us alone! We have no desire to know your ways'" (Job 21:7, 14).

Nor does the Bible give us a complete answer to this puzzle. Someday in heaven we'll fully understand God's ways—but not now. We live in a fallen world, a world where evil often seems to be in control. But that isn't the whole story! By faith we know that God still loves us, and His power is greater than all evil. The proof is Jesus Christ, who was put to death by evil men but rose from the dead by the power of God. Never forget this truth: Ultimately, God is in control, not Satan.

And someday God's justice and power will rule, and all evil will be destroyed. Satan will be bound forever, and Jesus Christ will reign over all the earth. In the meantime, we say with the Bible, "How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!" (Romans 11:33, KJV).

The real question, however, is this: Is your trust in God? In the midst of so much confusion and doubt in the world, have you put your faith in Christ, and are you seeking to follow Him every day? Make sure of your commitment to Christ, and then make it your goal to grow closer to Him every day.

Actually, the way I understand it - God was in control. Man disobeyed God's instruction and opened the door for satan, who had been thrown out of heaven, to come in and establish 'his' kingdom on earth. The earth changed that day. Thorns grew on the roses, man no longer had the ability to communicate with the animals and walk peaceably in the garden with his God, as a result the 'good thing' was gone - and man had to work. Evil was loosed upon the earth and yes, man always had a free will. While God does have all the power and is in control, He has to observe the very law he created. There is a natural law and spiritual law and they do work together in the universe. He will not upsurp the established situation, but He has given his followers, those who truly have faith and believe - the power to change things in the earth. In the end, as the Word has said - he will repay- we are only to continue to love as Jesus loved us, forgive one another and stay in faith. Live peaceably with all men. Do good to those who speak evil of you, bless them that curse you and make fun of you. I have learned to continue to walk in faith and in love. I pray for those who suffer and I try to provide relief whenever and wherever I can. That's love. In spite of the evil that satan releases on the world -influence, jealousy, hatred, war, poverty- all the things that are against God, we have to learn to keep loving one another. This is not a hard question, but it is a matter of if you can accept and believe it or not. There is no argument - just whether one believes, has faith and loves, or not.

I can put it altogether for ya.
It is kinda simple after that.
But, there is one Area that you will have to ask GOD why, that is HIS (what I call) Extra-Mercy.
It is in the Bible.
Other than that:

1. GOD gave mankind 100 percent authority over the Ceation (Earth), for 6000 years (legal spiritual contract).
2. Mankind (Adam) kicked GOD outta the Earth legally.
3. GOD cannot legally do anything HE wants to at this time.
4. You reap what you sow.
5. Chance happens to all men (male, female).
6. Adam let satan in (who kills, steals and destroys) seeking whom he may devour (he may not devour me!)
7. GOD tries to help all HE can using us to pray (legal way to give Authority to do things in this Earth at this time) IF WE WILL PRAY.
8. Legal Spiritual Contract with Mankind is almost up, when it is over, GOD comes back (Jesus).
9. GOD keeps the contracts HE makes.
10.GOD has a way to show Extra-Mercy Legally, don't know much about it, you have to ask HIM why and how HE shows it.
Hope this helps.
Ditto................
