So many believe that the Bible to is a myth, that God does not exist, that Christ is not the son of God, or that he was tortured, crucified and resurrected on the third day. If this is not true then why were his followers - the disciples willing to DIE for Him and what he taught? I sure wouldn't die for something that I either had not witnessed or something I didn't believe in.

The Bible was written by atleast 40 different authors - how can it not be true? Why would people die a horrible death if this was not true?

Jesus is the head of the church. The Catholic has an elaborate system of worship, involving the use of incense, the lighting of candles and the use of images these things are not in the Bible. When man adds other elements he is adding things which God did not wish to be included in his worship, else he would have included them from the beginning

... from captivity and slavery under the cruel hand of the Babylonians when he and his Persian armies conquered the Babylonian Empire. He allowed them to return to Judea and was proclaimed to be the Messiah by the grateful Hebrews. Maybe biblical prophesies regarding the coming of a savior/messiah were actually fulfilled hundreds of years BEFORE the birth of Jesus b y a Persian king! What do you think? If you disagree, please give some historical evidence to confirm your reasons.

The very first Supreme Court justice, John Jay, said: "Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers."
How then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 230 years in this country is now suddnly wrong and unconstitutional?

Well, that got your attention! No offence intended, but I've been thinking again. God created us with free-will, yes? So how did He know that Christ would be sentenced to death?

What if people had just said, 'Oh wow! That Jesus really makes sense. We really should live by his words, because the world would be such a better place'. And then Jesus would have lived quite happily until he was old and grey and still have gone down in history as a great teacher, or even the founder of a religion.

But the whole idea of 'sacrificed for our sins', or 'redemed through the blood of Christ' would be out the window wouldn't it?

So really, for the whole 'salvation' thing, God needed Jesus to die as he did. But what if He hadn't? What if the Jews (God's chosen people after all) had accepted Him as the Messiah?

Thoughts please.

this is an excerpt from a book called a Generous Orthodoxy...."I tell the story of my encounters with Jesus to say that now, after many years of following Jesus and learning from many different communities of his followers, I’m just beginning to arrive at a view of Jesus that approaches the simple, integrated richness I knew of him as a little boy…You could say I’m finding a new simplicity on the far side of complexity"

Thanks is advance!
