Mmmmmm, yes and no. Good pick up on your part however I believe mythology has more to do with deeply disguised 'stories with morals at the end that do not proclaim the need to worship any thing/ one at the end whereas the bible is always going on about that god bloke and Jesus and spirits if you know what I mean?

Nah, actually those religions aren't quite extinct. I know a few Hellenic Polytheists and I have known a Mirthas worshiper.
Myself I'm Asatru and worship the Norse Gods.
The basic definition of Mythology is, “a collection of myths about the origin and history of a people and their deities, ancestors, and heroes.” A myth, meanwhile, is “a traditional story originating in a preliterate society, dealing with supernatural beings, ancestors, or heroes that serve as primordial types in a primitive view of the world.” A myth can also be any real or fictional story, recurring theme, of character type that appeals to the consciousness of a people by embodying its cultural ideals or by giving expression to deep, commonly felt emotions.” Other definitions emphasize the fictional, half-truth, imaginary, or unreal aspect, despite the fact that the word derives from the Greek version of tale. All religions are based on mythology, myth in this context doesn't mean lie or an extinct religion.

I have no objection when people refer to the Bible as "Judeo-Christian mythology". It just happens to be the mythology I believe in. A mythology is a system of beliefs or stories that explain the creation and nature of the world.

~~~ swampthing,,,, Respectfully, you are mistaken in your contention of mythology and religion being synonomous. Mythology is a General Term referring to a Belief System which has both real and mythical figures among it's Allegories. "Religion" is a Specific Category or Type of Myth. Please read Joseph Campbell's works and you will find ALL you need to know about Mythology AND Religion.
Correct. Because mankind is created with an innate need for God, and cannot be complete or fulfilled without Him, every civilization known has reached out and attempted to make contact with the Divine. The true God of course is not reachable by mere human effort, so the many attempts on the part of men to find God inevitably resulted in the formation of many pagan religions, false "gods" and mythology. Once the true God revealed Himself to mankind, such efforts were no longer necessary.
