Pagan. That we're all evil witches that worship the devil. What's really sad, is that there is very little evidence to back this line of thinking up. I'm sure there are some Pagans out there who are real assholes, but those Pagans do not represent all Pagans. They only represent themselves.

Unlike what Dave G said there are misconceptions in religion. When you said misconception, you mean what in your religion is not understood by those outside the religion. This is not a contradiction or misinterpretation. Well, I guess it could be a misinterpretation since misconception means you are not interpreting the concept correctly. And atheist are suppose to be intellectuals.....lol. Anyways, my faith is Christianity. One major misconception about Christianity is the fact that we are saved by faith alone and our actions have nothing to do with it, this is a hard concept for people to grasp for some reason. The second is that is Christianity is not a religion but a living relationship with God the Father through Jesus Christ. There are more but I think these two are the most impotant.
God bless

As a believer, I know that the hardest thing for non-believers to accept is the 1) the birth of Jesus 2) the Trinity 3) the resurrection 4) Jesus is coming back 5) if you don't accept Jesus, then Hell is the place you will spend eternity - Many people cannot accept the concept of what the Bible teaches. Many people feel that when you die - that's it. Many people believe in science over spiritual and supernatural matters. I am not sure that these would be considered 'misconceptions' however, I know that when I witness to people, many have their own ideas that they can't be saved because they are 'too bad' when that is so untrue.
Peace to you.

My religion is Ásatrú.
Oh there's quite a few misconceptions and they annoy me greatly.
That's it's a form of Wicca or some other New Age religion.
That's its a Neo-Nazi and White supremacist religion.
That it glorifies death and is violent.
Or (this one I find slightly amusing) that Asatruars actually worship comic book characters.
Fundies do accuse me of devil worship from time to time, but it doesn't really bother me because well I consider the source. I think it is sad that whereas Wicca's problems have been almost exclusively with the non-Pagan community. The use of the term "witch" and symbols such as the pentagram have made this sort of misidentification simple to understand. Ásatrú's problems with misrepresentation, on the other hand, have been almost exclusively within the Pagan community. Mainstream society is ignorant of Ásatrú, and unless a group uses a swastika, it is more likely to generate thoughts of Hagar the Horrible or Thor comics in the mind of mainstream society.

I am Wiccan. The biggest misconception of others outside of my religion is that we worship Satan. Wiccans are NOT satanists. We don't believe in satan. He is a part of the christian belief system. And the most bothersome misconception inside of my religion is the trap some people fall into thinking that the path they have choosen is the best or only one. The teaching of tolerance of other's paths is one of the best things about my religion that I can think of. I personally need to work on that one myself too.

The top 5:
1. Atheism is the belief that no gods exist.
The word ‘atheism’ comes from the Greek prefix ‘a’, meaning without, and ‘theist’, meaning having a belief in a supernatural deity. Atheism, therefore, literally means “without theistic belief". Atheism does not positively assert anything; rather, it is a statement of withheld belief.
2. Atheism requires just as much faith as theism.
This misconception arises because of the misunderstanding of the term ‘atheism’, as described above…When an atheist says, “I don’t believe in the Christian God", she is merely saying that the evidence for belief is insufficient.
3. Atheists’ lives are meaningless and devoid of hope and purpose.
Indeed, my life is more precious and more meaningful simply because I know it is short and fleeting. Because I expect no eternal reward or damnation after death, I treat each day as a gift.
4. Atheists have no morals because they reject belief in an eternal moral-giver (i.e. God).
Ethics and morals, after all, preceded Jesus by thousands of years. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, while inspiring, was basically just a rehash of the same Golden Rule that had been around for three milliennia.
5. Atheists must have had a bad childhood experience to cause them to give up on religion and hate God.
For me and for most atheists, the journey from belief to non-belief is simply a gradual process of discovery that eventually leads to God/gods becoming unnecessary.

The biggest misconception of Christianity, in my opinion, is that "faith" is, by definition, belief in the absense of evidence. I think this is the biggest misconception because it's a misconception held, not only by non-Christians, but even by the majority of Christians themselves.
The word we translate as "faith" is the Greek word "pistis." One need only investiage the meaning and useages of "pistis" in and around the first century to dispell this misconception.
