My little brother has a lot of classic children's books, but I've been told you can get really lovely modern books now, and I'd like to get him a few for Christmas...he loves stories and I really want to encourage him to love reading when he's a bit older!

Does anyone have any recommendations or favourites?

Thankyou :)

a little girl. However she only has her everyother month when her dad works day. When he works nights he has her during those months. So when she has her, she comes in the clothes that my cousin put on her that morning. Looks like she doesnt get a bath. Is 4 years old, doesn't know how to play with toys, wants someone to feed her, take her to the RR, open a door, etc. She weighs as much as her 1-1/2 year old. she also stays in a 1 bedroom apartment with her father and 2 brothers that are 5 & 7. Should she call CPS? She has tried talking to the father and he kindof brushes off her questions. What should she do?

Ok so my son is 4yrs old and he has ummmm a thing for our toilet. Every chance he gets he flushing something down it. We have tried numerous different toilet lid locks and each with the same result, he can figure them out within minutes of us putting them on.
He has flushed, jumbo legs blocks, a candy bubble gum dispenser, travel deodorant,400 q-tips,a ball, one of his Thomas toys, his Thomas wooden whistle and the list goes on and on.
Its not from lack of supervision, he'll be going pee or poo and then he sneaks a toy into the toilet and flushes it and then tells us about it.We watch him very intently when in the bathroom but we don't go in because we have always taught himt hat the bathroom is private. Should we start going in now? We have to take our toilet off to get whatever he flushes down about twice a month. We have tried everything as a means of punishment but nothing works and we won't spank what should we do now? I'm at a loss......

Ok, I have a baby that is going to turn one on Dec. 7. I have a couple of things that I need advice on. First, he has a bit of a biting problem. He does this towards me most of the time and only occasionaly towards others like his dad and siblings. I don't know if he is trying to kiss me and maybe is teething and goes for a bite, but why only me? He comes towards me with his little mouth wide open and then takes a bite and pulls away. It's getting painful and I don't know what I can do about it being he is only one year old. I think he is way too young for disipline like time out and I'm not sure how to go about it since I never had this problem with the first 2. Then another thing is he is starting to throw tantrums, I thought it was too young but he's doing it. He throws himself on the floor and cries if I walk a step away from him. I've been with him 24/7 since he was born so could this be separation anxiety? I don't know but I need some opinions.

This morning, my daughter was very insistant that she didn't want to go to her preschool class. Typically, she loves to go. I attempted to convince her to go every way I could all the way up to the school doors. She didn't budge, cried that she didn't want to without giving me any real reason why. I caved and let her come back home. I'm looking for (educated) opinions on this. Was this the right move ? Or am I teaching her that if she has a fit, she can get out of going to school? She is almost 4. If your child was very insistant on not going, would you force them to go anyway? I suppose I was just concerned that there was a bigger issue that she couldn't express to me. Any tips on getting the reason why out of her? Or should I let it go and see how she is next time she goes?

She is going to be 1 on December 9th and I have been trying to wean her off the bottle. She turns her head when I try to give her a sippy cup and will cry and suck her thumb for hours wanting a bottle. Sometimes I give her one and sometimes she falls asleep being so upset. Is there any trick you used to get your baby off the bottle or any advice? Thanks to answers!

My daughter will be 3 on monday, she is potty trained. The problem is she wont use a toilet. She will use the potty when she needs to go but screams if I suggest she use the toilet. She has seen me and her brother (he's 5) using it and we call it the big girls potty. We have a kids seat that fits over the normal seat.
My son's were really easy, but they didn't have to sit on it!!
I just don't know what to do next. She will be starting pre school in jan and I really want her to be using the toilet by then.
Any advice would be great!!
Thanks.

my 27 month old daughter, knows about the potty, how to control when to go, and where to go etc. i'm absolutely confident that she has it sussed. however, she has decided to use it as a control battle, and won't use it. i make sure that she sits on in it regularly, but instead of going, she holds it in... and then 5 minutes later she lets rip, even if it isn't a desperate need to go!
i need to make her realise that actually going potty is a better idea than weeing and pooing in her pants. any suggestions. and no, explaining it to her doesn't work. she isn't interested... if mummy wants her to wee in the potty she controls the situation by not going in the potty.
thx for you help!

We now know the main issue is the sitting on the toilet. His wees are no prob, but asks for a nappy for poos. We've tried cold turkey no nappies but he will hold on for up to 8 days with tummy aches and then go in his undies. We've done the charts, bribes, making the toilet a fun place etc, but nothing can break through this fear. I've even tried suppositries to MAKE him go so I can pop him on and be with him so he can see it isn't scary, but he will even hang on then ! We tried being harsh and MAKING him sit on the toilet until he went but it got to3 HOURS and 9pm and he was so exhausted he had to go to bed. (and he STILL hung on).
We are now at the point where he stands up straddling the toilet with a step either side of it (facing the wall) with a nappy on, but I can't get him to SIT and do it. His Dad promised him a new motorbike (which is his ultimate dream) in desperation but even that can't push him through this issue he has. He starts school next year.
Any ideas anyone ?

I have a 4 yr that loves arts and crafts. I usually only do drawing, coloring and glueing because I also have a 2 yr old son that likes to participate. I am looking for something new for Christmas. It will be for a 4 yr old but like I said, I am hoping for something that a 2 yr old can participate in.
Looking for any ideas. Thanks

At night my son would wake up crying but yet his diaper is fine, he does not want the bottle, teething medication and crib toys. I have to pat him on the back gently and hum to make him go to sleep but when I STOP he cries and wakes up. I find myself standing beside the crib for more then 20 minutes. So i get very tire and put him near me on my bed. I swear i did it like 2-3 times and now it seems every night Im doing. Like he actually knows the difference between my bed and his crib. He sleeps almost immediately when he is on my bed! is this weird? What can I do to make him sleep in his crib?

My 2 year old has been biting for several months now and it seems like we have tried everything to stop it. Part of the problem is she does'nt bite at home so I really can't correct it here. I have went to the daycare to try to talk to her after it happens and I seem to get nowhere with her. I am clueless at this point as to what to do. She was recently kicked out of the daycare she has been at since she was 6 weeks old and has only been at the new daycare for a few weeks and has been biting several times daily there also. I don't know what do do anymore!!! Any sugestions???

I am divorced and I have a 5 and 7 year old. I found out the children's mother doesn't put my 5 year old son in his car seat anymore. The kids told me he weighs 60 pounds and doesn't need one. I know this is not true, he is just under 50lbs. What can I do. I told her she needs to put him in and she just brushed me off. Any ideas?

Once in a while he takes a bite of real food but thats it. He lives off of milk basically. I wanted to know if this is normal behavior for a toodler? Any moms out here dealing with the same thing? Docter says he is heathy overall, but he never eats! ANY HELP OR ADVICE PLEASE?
