I have a one year old, a three year old and a six year old. My oldest has used kids toothpaste since he was two. However, my middle child has just started using it because he has just learned that you actually have to spit it out and not swallow it. So I guess it depends on how well and how early they learn not to swallow the toothpaste. Your best bet would be to find a good flavored (bubblegum??) children's toothpaste that is still o.k. if swallowed and try it out. If she is not ready then switch back or slowly ease into the real stuff. Good luck and happy brushing!!

I have a 6 and 3 year old and still have them using kids toothpaste that is not harmful if swallowed that is the biggest thing I look for - cause well they're kids and still don't quite get that you can't "eat" the toothpaste no matter how good it tastes.

Stick with the Oral-B brand and you can change to the next level of toothpaste when she learns to spit out the toothpaste and not swallow it. Probably around 4 or so.

At 2 years of age children are able to start using flouride toothpaste and that is what isn't in babies toothpaste. I just visited the dentist with my two older children and that is what she told me. We use Kids Crest and the dentist gave us samples of Oral B Stages.

You can switch anytime. Just make sure you use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste. We like Tom's of Maine Silly Strawberry. It's not too sugary like most kid's toothpastes.

My daughter is 4 and she uses KIDs Crest now. I switched her toothpaste when she finally stopped trying to eat it.

My advice would be for you to NOT use the same toothpaste as a 20-month old "anything!" . . . You seem to be much older if you do the Internet . . . Well, are you?

Anytime, any brand, really. Remember, the dosage is about the size of a match-head (no bigger!) and don't swallow.
Edit:
Someone above said the size of a "pea," which is way too big. Small, small amounts of any brand.
