Your son may secretly enjoy the game of "tackle" the two of you have developed. Here are a couple of hints.

First, try getting a medicine syringe. It's MUCH easier to get the medicine into the back of his mouth or along the side of the cheek where he's less likely to taste it and it's easier to swallow. If you can't find one at your local drug store, ask the pharmacist.

Does he hate shots? Most kids do. CALMLY explain to him that if he doesn't take his medicine, the doctor will have to give him his medicine in a shot. DON'T make it sound like a threat. Rather, make it sound like you'd hate for him to have to get a shot. Let him know you're on his side.

Last, try either having a basket of little toys - the 99 cent store is great for these - that he can pick from when he's taken his medicine. Or use star stickers on a chart and let him choose a "prize" when he gets, say, 5 stars (you pick the #) - he can watch what he wants on TV for an hour, or choose a special dinner/treat/snack. You get the idea. Of course, let him know ahead of time of this new "game" and the rewards he'll get.
Good luck!

Try the bribery and mixing with yummy stuff (I like the popsicle idea) but sometimes the only way my 3 1/2 and almost 5-year old will take medicine is if I let them do it themselves. I use one of those squirting syringes from the drugstore. I fill it myself (obviously) and then give it to them with a wet paper towel. I don't know if it's because they think the syringe is fun or if it's just a control issue but this usually works (often with some cajoling). Just make sure you show him how it works using water first. I still have red and purple splotches on my kitchen ceiling.

my son Vincent did that too. it made me so worried when he got sick. but i no of some medicines and vitamins that Vincent would eat (of course i didn't tell him that they were really medicine though)
If u want ur son to take vitamins they have gummy bear ones at target. Kids love them and can't even tell the difference.
But they don't have gummy bear pills for everything unfortunately. the biggest problem i had with Vincent was peptobismol. he hated that stuff but needed it a lot. luckily i found a way to trick him into taking his meds. i would put it in a juice box. he would drink it.

At the pharmacy they can add a fruit taste to the medicine, this should help, DONT PLUG HIS NOSE he will think he is choking or running out of breath right away. This should help.

Tell him he can have his favorite snack if he takes his medicine. Or take something away from him that he really loves and tell him he can have it back when he takes his medicine. Kids will work with you if you give them positive reinforcement for doing things. Maybe take him to McDonalds for a happy meal if he takes his meds

Sorry. I can't help ya with this one. Both of my children are very obedient. I tell them it's time to do something, and they do it. Neither one of them have really given me any grief for anything!

I would have to say that tackling your child to take medicine is probably the wrong way to approach this. You shouldn't tackle your child for any reason.

Get a yummy drink that's the same color as his medicine. Mix it up and give it to him. He'll never know =P
