I'm asking about a huge tantrum like when they're screaming and on the floor at a grocery store for example. Did you slowly walk away hoping they would follow and stop or try to talk them out of it? Did you give in to what they wanted? Did you pick them up and walk out of the store? Or did you put them in the cart and continue to shop while they're still throwing the tantrum. If you didn't do any of these, what did you do? What do you think the best solution is when a kid throws a temper tantrum in public?

It might sound stupid, but last night I had a dream that my daughter got headlice from daycare. She is two and has very fine but full-bodied curly hair.

A lady at work had to shave her three girls' head bald to get rid of the problem...and they had the same textured hair and got lice from daycare.

How often do people actually get it and is it really that hard to get rid of it?

What can I do to prevent her from ever getting it all together?

My 2 year old is one of the best natured children I've ever been around. Very goofy, outgoing, and just all around happy. She always has been. She catches the random bugs going around but always bounces right back as any normal child does. Near the beginning of the summer I noticed the color on her forehead was significantly lighter than the rest of her skin, but very blotchy. She saw her doctor who wrote a referral to dermatology, but she can't be seen until February.

She's never had a ton of hair and it always looked kinda silly because it was a lot thinner on the top than the sides. Now she's 2 and it's still that way and recently when I comb it it's falling out. I'm certainly not combing it roughly, it's just coming out entirely too easy. I researched the symptoms and the only thing I came across was lupus. This has me very paranoid, but hopefully for no reason. I don't want to go to her doctor with such a guess if I'm completely wrong. Does anyone have any ideas??

I put her clothes back on.....go back and check on her later....and ALL her clothes are back off. Why does she do this?

My 4 yr old daughter was an only child until her sister was born 6 months ago. We've definitely spoiled her with material things, but I always felt that I was pretty tough on her otherwise. Still, she refuses to do anything that she doesn't want to do. She screams at the top of her lungs and tells me that she is not going to to do whatever I'm asking her to do at the time. We've tried rewarding her for good behavior and punishing her for bad behavior in the form of timeouts, loss of toys, going to bed early, etc. I don't believe in capital punishment for my family and will not budge on that issue, but I'm open to any other suggetions. Do other 4 yr olds act like this? What do I do?

My husband last night commented that he wanted to put a time-out chair on the front porch, so when our three year old threw a tantrum he could just put her on the porch, shut the door and not hear it. I said that you can't kick a 3-year old out for throwing a tantrum and that it's ridiculous and abusive. He then tried to play it off as a joke, but I think he was trying to gauge my reaction because a part of him thought it was a good idea, and he would do it if I thought so, too. Am I wrong?

I have a 2 year old daughter who is breast fead. I cant get her off my breast. She sleeps with us of a night.?

My daughter sleeps with me and all night she is sucking on my breasts. She is 2 years old and uses me for a dummy. She has never had a dummy or a bottle only ever had breast milk. It is becoming annoying and I just want my boobs back! She can talk and tells me she wants boob when she is tiered. It is becoming a habit of when she is tiered she wants boob. Sometimes she gets boob and then hops off me and goes plays, then comes back when she is ready for more booby as she calls it. It could be a 5 minute interval or 30 minutes, then she finally falls asleep on my breast. She stays asleep for 30 min then wakes up and wants more booby, gets it and goes to sleep again and will stay there for as long as I hold her near my breast. My baby is the baby of 6 children and I have never been in this situation before. I have breast fed all my children and I have always weened at 12 months. I don't know where I went wrong this time, but there is no getting off the booby for this baby! Please help!

My son is 3 1/2 and I was just curious if other 3 year old kids are involved in extra curriculars... like sports or music lessons....

My son was in baseball "smart start" where they just learn basics. He went once a week for an hour for about 6 weeks.

Now we are going to start gymnastics, once a week for 50 minutes for 2 1/2 months.

I'm not one of these parents who has their kids speaking 3 languages and playing tons of sports!! Preschool is insanely expensive, and I'm just trying to get him involved in stuff so he can be around other kids.

He is very very athletic and has a TON of energy. I want to give him the tools to succeed (Tiger Woods started at 2, lol!), but I don't want to expect too much.

Your thoughts?

as soon as you put my one year old in her crib she starts screaming the only way she stops is if she cries herself to sleep ( which can be up to 3-4 hours) or if i go in am pick her up. Most days it doesn't matter if I am in the room or not. I have been letting her just cry herself to sleep cause people say she will just give up and eventually the crying will get less and less. I have been doing this for 5 months now and the crying isn't getting any better and it is now affecting my marriage. Help

My husband and I are in a debate and he feels that when you request something (i.e. 'Would you turn off the light?') that you don't have to say 'please' as the person can answer 'no'. And then only if they comply, then it is the time to say 'thank you'. He doesn't feel there is a need for the use of the word 'please'. I feel our daughters will sound rude or commanding, rather than requesting if they do not use the word 'please'. Please help us end this debate. Thank you.

My daughter is 21/2 and I'm ready to train her but I don't know how to begin. I know she's ready because she always hides when she goes and tells me to changer her diaper all the time. I also have a newborn so it's kind of hard to do it but I really want her out of diapers already. How do I begin?

I have a 2 3/4 yr old boy. I started potty training him 5 wks ago. I am due to have my 2nd child in 2 wks. My oldest son had 2 accident free days 3 wks ago & I thought that we were on the road to success. Since that point he is having 3-6 accidents per day. I am pretty sure that he is ready to train; he stays dry 1-2 hours at a time, wakes up from nap dry, tells me when he did potty, etc. I don't know if he is stressed by the coming of the new baby & that's why we are not making progress or if he is boried with the idea. Most books I've read and people that I talk to say don't go back to diapers. Does anybody have suggestions on how to ensure success? (should I go back to diapers?) Any helpful hints?! I have tried treats for dry spells, big boy underwear, letting him take control of his potty times, etc. I am unsure what to do and don't want to make it harder for him in the long run or make it worse than what it is.

this happened to you?
She ran a fever all weekend. Her fever was 102.1 this morning. I took her to the doctor and he couldn't find anything.
I thought it was an ear infection but he said it wasn't. She doesn't have a cold or anything. He gave her a prescription for an antibiotic just in case there was an underlying problem.
Could teething make her temp go that high? We are so worried. Any prayers would be appreciated.

Okay. So I'm hosting my niece's birthday party in two weeks, and my sister says that she wants them to do some arts and crafts. I don't know what type, but all I know is that she is turning four, and has many many friends. Could anyone reccomend some places for me to go to get the items, what to do, what they should make, etc etc?

We just spent the weekend with a little girl (almost 4) - and I was amazed that the parents allow her to run their house.

Is it common practice for parents to end sentences with "okay?"

"We're going to eat lunch now - okay?"

"First we have to run some errands, and then we'll get you a toy - okay?

It's time for a nap - okay?"

I don't get it. Why do parents ask their kid's permission to do things? I understand that there is a time and place for kids to make decisions i.e. "Would you like to watch cartoons right now -or go for a swim?" But - do most parents allow their pre-schoolers to decide what the schedule of the house will be?

Do any of you do this? (ask - "Okay?") Or know somebody who does it? Does it serve some purpose - or are the parents just unaware of what they are doing?
