Play Barbies with them. Let them tell you how to play the way they like to.
Bring over hair clips, ribbons, hair elastics and other (non-heating and non-chemical) hair goodies and do their hair, and then let them "do" yours. (It'll be a mess but it will comb out.)
Play board games, like Candyland or any others they have.
Watch a video.
Color.
Make Kool-Aid (in the kitchen). Let the older girl measure the sugar and let the younger one stir.
Read a story together. You read a page and then the eight-year-old reads a page.
Bring over some old high-heeled shoes and let the girls clatter around in them. If you have other "dress-up" type things then bring them too. Call each other "Princess" - like "Princess Amy" and "Princess Madison".
You can play school, play house, play store, play just about anything. Girls this age are very into fantasy play and acting out daily routine as they perceive it. Just join in and ask them what they would like you to do. The 8-year-old will likely have very strong opinions on that subject.

These kids are too old for naps.
I assume you are allowed to heat food using a microwave.
Get creative and the time will fly. Painting a picture or an object (cheap glass vase, old picture frame) is fun for all ages.
Try reading them a story and ask them to paint/draw a picture that illustrates a scene from the book. That can last an hour.
Find a good children's movie before you babysit at the library or borrow from a friend, something you think they haven't seen before. Almost two hours there. (suggestion: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) Make popcorn.
Have a dress-up tea party.
Play a board game. Play two.
If they have flat-rate long-distance calling (ask the parents), have them call out-of-town relatives just to say "hi". Kids can get going and chat forever!
Do the laundry and have them fold. Vacuum the rugs and have them dust as a special present for Mom and Dad.
Teach them how to cut paper snowflakes. Kids will work a long time on one flake if they are naturally artistic.
Dance with scarves to an Anya CD (my 4yo's fave.)
Make a fort or tent out of a large bedsheet (or 2 or 3) and the furniture. Line it with bed pillows and make up a silly story about little animals in the woods that had to find a cave to get out of the blizzard and a bear tried to eat them--gently scary stories are good for their imaginations.
Trace their feet and hands on sheets of paper, write down their names and dates and have them color them. Add a list of favorite things for each child (color, cartoon, toy, movie, game, etc.) Staple together as a "book" to give the parents.
Ask them to tell you about school and what their friends are like. Conversation is an art and it's dying fast. Teach them how to talk about themselves.
Good luck with your job!

WOW! that's difficult. I would play some board games, or a scavenger hunt, or hide-and-seek, or coloring, orwatching movies. don't watch movies the whole time though. You don't want the parents to come home to braindead children! Also, only G-rated movies. You could get in trouble for that too. Or if you want a PG rated movie, you would have to ask the parents first. Plus, at some point you might want to have the girls doing different things, because if they're together the whole time, things could get catty and ugly! Hope I helped! Oh, and GOOD LUCK!

When I play with my cuz (5yrs) he loves watching the movie Cars. We'll play hide and seek where I count downstairs and he has the whole upstairs to hide. We play a match game where I turn cards upside down and we have to find the pairs. We also play catch (basically throwing it around) with a nerf ball. You can have them help you make a snack, but you'd have to come up with something for that one because I got nothing.

I would bring along construction paper, safety scissors and markers and have them create something.
I once made a car out of an old cardboard box and some imagination... my little cousins loved it. They kept thinking of new things that was needed... side mirrors, rear view, windshield wipers, etc.
Have fun!
