I have a 2 3/4 yr old boy. I started potty training him 5 wks ago. I am due to have my 2nd child in 2 wks. My oldest son had 2 accident free days 3 wks ago & I thought that we were on the road to success. Since that point he is having 3-6 accidents per day. I am pretty sure that he is ready to train; he stays dry 1-2 hours at a time, wakes up from nap dry, tells me when he did potty, etc. I don't know if he is stressed by the coming of the new baby & that's why we are not making progress or if he is boried with the idea. Most books I've read and people that I talk to say don't go back to diapers. Does anybody have suggestions on how to ensure success? (should I go back to diapers?) Any helpful hints?! I have tried treats for dry spells, big boy underwear, letting him take control of his potty times, etc. I am unsure what to do and don't want to make it harder for him in the long run or make it worse than what it is.

I just potty trained my son and daughter. I like an approach where I don't have to pressure or push my child. I think it really helps boys to pee standing up so they can see what is happening and connect the sensations.
What worked for my kids was The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com I started by just setting it at the toilet. My kids immediately climbed up on the stool and discovered that they could safely and securely use the toilet. This got them very interested in using the toilet and they were potty trained very quickly. My kids like to use what they know mommy and daddy use.

I like that I don't have to double the steps of potty training by training them first in a potty and then training them to stop using a potty. And not dumping and cleaning a potty each time is great. The best thing is that kids use it for years. I hope this helps you

When my son turned two, I began taking him to the bathroom every hour. He would also go into the bathroom with his dad, observing what he did. We still used the pullups for a while until he got completely used to going to the bathroom on his own. My son never wanted to use his potty chair, so I bought a stepstool instead, which makes him feel like a big boy and this actually seemed to encourage him to go to the bathroom believe it or not. Now he's three and completely out of diapers even at bedtime. I can't remember the last time he had an accident. Good Luck!

You should buy a potty seat he can use at the grownup potty, or you'll be able to make him use the child. Either manner you can by and large need to keep in the toilet with him till he is going for the primary few months of potty coaching. Don't anticipate him to be equipped to head in there and handle it himself. Grab a e-book and plant your self till he is going. Don't make it demanding. You can present a gift of a few sort if he makes use of both potty (like 2 m&m's). Be sufferer although he is not and do not fear. Training takes time.

I have heard countless stories of toddlers (and even preschoolers) regressing when a new baby is born and having accidents. If you are at home with your son during the day, keeping him naked from the waist down works wonders. Treats for dry spells can backfire if he has a legitimate accident.

Be patient! My son liked rewards and "big boy" underwear at first, but he really just decided he liked using the potty better one day.

The emotions of becoming a sibling may indeed be a factor. I suggest not making a big deal out of it, just whip out the pull-ups until he's ready to try again. Don't pressure him, he's the right age but just may be feeling out of control right now. Major life changes are not the right time for potty training.

Good luck!

WIth my son it was just a battle of wills. Finally what I had to do was just do away with pull-ups. Big boy undies all the time and within two weeks he was dry 90% of the time because he didn't like wet pants. Even the "feel and learn" don't come anywhere near that.
