My 2 year old is one of the best natured children I've ever been around. Very goofy, outgoing, and just all around happy. She always has been. She catches the random bugs going around but always bounces right back as any normal child does. Near the beginning of the summer I noticed the color on her forehead was significantly lighter than the rest of her skin, but very blotchy. She saw her doctor who wrote a referral to dermatology, but she can't be seen until February.
She's never had a ton of hair and it always looked kinda silly because it was a lot thinner on the top than the sides. Now she's 2 and it's still that way and recently when I comb it it's falling out. I'm certainly not combing it roughly, it's just coming out entirely too easy. I researched the symptoms and the only thing I came across was lupus. This has me very paranoid, but hopefully for no reason. I don't want to go to her doctor with such a guess if I'm completely wrong. Does anyone have any ideas??

Talk to your doctor. I don't know about you, but mine has a nurse on call all day long solely to answer questions from concerned moms. Tell the doctor/nurse over the phone exactly what you've said here. They may ask you to bring her in, they may tell to you relax. You may feel silly calling them but that's what they are there for -- trust me, pediatricians get a lot sillier phone calls than the one you should be making. I know someone who called her pediatrician about five times a day when her son was an infant, so don't worry about bothering them. Good pediatricians are as concerned about your child as you are, they'll understand :).

Follow your motherly instinct. Go back to the doctor. I'm not suggesting that she has lupus. I don't know anything about the disease. But I am a mother and I believe that our instincts should not be ignored. Nobody knows your daughter like you do and if you feel something is not right get her seen. It may be something simple that could become a big deal if you wait until Feb. If you aren't happy with her doctor, find another one until you are comfortable with their diagnosis and treatment (if needed). Hoping that everything will be okay with your daughter.

Ummmm did you say she can't be seen until February? Ask your doctor for another referral because that is ridiculously too long to be waiting around wondering what ifs and what nots. I don't have any suggestions on what that can possibly be, check out WebMD.com and hopefully that can give you some insight, but until then make sure you search for another doctor so that she can be seen sooner.

Go back to the pediatrician and let him know that she has more symptoms now...now she's losing her hair. He may want to run some blood work on her. And, tell him that the derm office can't see her until Feb. Of course, this is ridiculous. Call a different office, you can't wait 6 months! If this is the only office that you can go to, have them call you when they have a cancellation. Don't be too concerned at this time, babies often lose their "baby" hair and it will be replaced w/ new hair.

My first thought after reading about your child, was cancer. I don't know a whole lot about lupus. I hope your daughter doesn't have either of them. I understand how paranoid and worried you must be. Children should never have to go through anything so horrible. I am a mom of 2 young children and can't imagine if this was my child.
I hope everything turns out ok.
Good luck to you.

I'm sorry to hear that. I know that must be hard wondering what's wrong with your child. I certainly understand how you're feeling. Go to another doctor who can get her in immediately. This is nothing to wait until February for. If they can't tell what's wrong with her by looking at her request a blood test. Praying for you.
Peace

Take her to the doctor. It may not be lupus, but if her hair if falling out like that then she still needs to be seen before February.

Call her regular physician and tell him/her that you are not going to wait until February to have her seen. You know your child better than anyone. Surely, there is something the doctor can do...at least try and rule things out, one by one.

I think you dhold find a doctor that will see you now. It may be nothing, but this is your child you are talking about and you need answers now, not February.
