My son is 3 1/2 and I was just curious if other 3 year old kids are involved in extra curriculars... like sports or music lessons....

My son was in baseball "smart start" where they just learn basics. He went once a week for an hour for about 6 weeks.

Now we are going to start gymnastics, once a week for 50 minutes for 2 1/2 months.

I'm not one of these parents who has their kids speaking 3 languages and playing tons of sports!! Preschool is insanely expensive, and I'm just trying to get him involved in stuff so he can be around other kids.

He is very very athletic and has a TON of energy. I want to give him the tools to succeed (Tiger Woods started at 2, lol!), but I don't want to expect too much.

Your thoughts?

Also... when he did baseball it was parents involved, but gymnastics is on his own with us watching from 2nd floor. I'm so nervous that he won't pay attention or take turns or something! It's hard for me to step back because I like him to be super well behaved!! How does your child do without your guidance?

We love gymnastics for our three year old. The kids learn so much body awareness, balance and coordination it's amazing.

In our class, it's totally up to the parents whether or not they want to be involved in the class. My kid needs me there for the warm up, but then runs off once things get moving. If your gym won't let you be near your three year old if he needs you, please consider finding another gym. The same goes if they start getting too strict about practicing, improving, or anything else that sounds too competitive. We're lucky to have found such a great gym that nurtures the kids, but there are lots of other gyms out there. It has to be fun for your son, and fun for you too! Good luck!

My son is three and I am starting him in preschool. There are no other activities around this city for him yet - he has to be five before he can play baseball. Soccer is in the spring and I havent decided if I will have him in that or not yet. He should be fine in gymnastics. In preschool you wouldnt even be able to be there. They know how to handle kids that age, dont worry and relax! lol.

My 3.5 year old is in dance class and will be on a toddler bowling league starting in November, as well as preschool two days a week. She loves having activities and it gives me a break too!
