Some f the things he ent in for was flu, brething problems, diarrhea, and just yesterday for a possible ar infection(his docs ofice was closed). How many times have you taken your kids? Well from my own life, I have only been to the ER once in 36 years. My parents didn't have health insurance and my mom wasn't one to panic. We would go to the dr, but only if we were running high fevers or seriously sick. Why would you take your child to the ER for the flu, diarrhea, or ear infection? Have you ever heard of waiting 24 hours to see if it gets worse? An ear infection (unless the temp goes over 103) can be dealt with tylnol or motrin, flus go away in 24 hours and diarrhea, make sure you change him and give lots of fluids. You need to take a course in common sense and stop getting into a panic. Right now I take care of children and I am watching the same children for the last 7 years, guess what in 7 years and a total of 14 children only 1 has ever visited the ER and that was for stitches. You need to calm down over the little stuff.

I have an almost two year old named Nina and a 3 1/2 month old baby named Kayla. Nina was in the ICU for 3 weeks after she was born, had a vomitting attack last year and needed about half a million dollars worth of surgery, crawled into the corner of a glass table at my mothers house and got 3 stitches, cracked her head open, and fell into the pool and nearly died, so 4 with her, and Kayla has a benigne heart murmer which has put her in the hospital at least 6 times. And my little sister Ava who's 13 has gone to the ER very many times because she's just not very careful when she does things.

By the time my daughter was three years old she had been in the ER about 10 times, from a viral infection that caused severe diarrhea and dehydration to the measles. She was bitten by a large bug I did not know the species of so I didn't know if it was poisionous, she tried climbing out of her crib (after I dropped the mattress and kept the rails up) and literally knocked the wind out of herself, she wouldn't breathe. She had numerous ear infections that came on quickly and tempratures very high. Her normal temp is 96.7 so anything above 100 meant a trip to the ER. She stuck a button up her nose once, I never panicked. I just put her inot her car seat, and headed to the ER. No need to panic, panic makes it worse.

So, would this be per year? per kid? :)) I have 5 kids, my oldest is 15, and I lost track a long time ago. My panic days are past, and I've been in for everything from dehrydration to broken arms, rusty nails in the foot to severe allergy attacks, but I think my first one spent waaay more time in the ER than necessary due to my panics! once, it was the appearance of tiny worms in his bm when he was 9 months old (turned out to be bananas, the little stringy parts turned black and his poo was still yellowish-orange at the time) and another time because he closed his finger in a cabinet and I SWORE he had shattered his little pinky... the staff, while hiding their snickers, were very patient with me hehehe. I am much calmer about things these days, and am a little better about knowing what needs immediate attention and what doesn't, but the panicky feeling inside never seems to leave completely! :)

I have a 3 yr old & 23 mo old. I have never taken them to the ER. That said, we have gone to urgent care twice (both ear infections) to Sat office hours (great pediatrician, huh) and I use the "nurse hotline" that comes with our insurance plan at least once a month for everything from "what are the signs of a concussion because the little guy flipped out of his crib onto his head" to "his fever keeps going up, what do I do?"

My son is 22 months and he has been to the ER once for slight dehydration (16 mos. old at the time) and vomitting.
Wow! Writing this means I have a very healthy child!
I'm sure though there will be a lot more!

When my son was born the first few months we were in because he was vomiting his formula violently and once on the weekend for unconsolable crying which ended up being an ear infection. then at 2 he snuck up on daddy and stuck his fingers in the car door as daddy shut the door.
LOL me personally I was in the er at least once a month due to ear infections(another military brat) military hospitals don't have appts available for same day issues and I would rupture an ear drum in a matter of a couple of hours!

My 3 1/2 year old daughter has been once. She was throwing up every half hour for a while, did not want her to get dehydrated.

My other 3 1/2 year old daughter has never been to the ER.

My son is almost 16 months and he's been twice- once for severe tonsilitis and then a week later for a car accident- he was with Grandma who was rubbernecking and rear ended the guy in front of her. I'm pretty sure that we'll have lots more visits before it's all said & done
