Poor boy!
Is it warm where you are?
You are doing the right thing to keep it clean. Try zinc paste on the red area. It should help in case the problem really is a slight infection due to heat+unwashed little hands. Remember to check the hands and under the nails as well! It is a sensitive area, though, and you might want to show it to your family doctor. Just to be on the sure side.
Hope it will go over!
comment on other answers: you don't pull back the foreskin on little boys, might hurt.

My son is circum. I noticed that occasionally his penis becomes red as well. My pediatrician did say that some infections ( throat, etc) may affect the genital area. All of these areas are delicate membranes. These membranes become red when there is infection. I would definately take him to the pediatrician to have him checked out. It could be a problem totally none related to this area. It also could be urinary tract infection or a sore from rubbing on his underwear or diaper.

yeah sounds like an infection. That happened to my son and he ended up being circumcised. It was the beat thing ever even though I was hesitant. However these things clear up so fast with antibiotics. Let him hang loose for as often as you can!

This is a tough call. Could this be a rash caused by a diaper? Could this be something more?
Does it look like a rash? Could diaper rash cream help? Maybe try that. Diaper rash cream works quick. So, if you try that and it doesn't clear up in a day or two, I'd suggest taking him in to the doctor's.
If the penis is red, maybe there's concern there.

You are doing the right thing by keeping it clean but it could be infected. A lot of children are circumcised because of this problem. i think he may need some antibiotic cream to clear it up initially then keeping it as clean as you can afterwards. He might grow out of it in a few years though!

There are a lot of possibilities here, from a simple injury that will quickly fade away, to some infections that can cause big problems quickly.
In general, ANY problems with the genitalia should be seen by a doctor quickly.

He might have some kind of a rash, especially if he still wears diapers. I'd treat it like you might treat a diaper rash and see if it goes away. If not, you'd probably be better off taking him to the doctor.
Most likely everything is fine, but you never want to risk it when it's your little one.

Take him to the doctor - might have an infection or it might be the hot weather or clothes rubbing - could be nay number of things so the doc's is the best bet - that's what they are paid for
