My nephew, 18 months, just had surgery today to remove a foreign object from the bottom of his foot. I am currently caring for him and need some advice. They told me to keep him off the foot for 1 week but he is a very active little boy. We are holding, rocking, playing with him, etc, but he still just wants down! Any suggestions would be great--thanks in advance!

I have a 16 month old daughter. Ever since she turned one, I took her off formula and started giving her whole milk. She has a bottle when she wakes up, a bottle when she naps and a bottle at night when she goes to sleep for the night. However, I can't get her to drink her milk from a sippy cup. She drinks water and juice just fine from a cup but when I give her a cup with milk in it, she will take a couple sips and then put it down. I keep trying to give it back to her but she won't take it. She has to have her milk to be able to go to sleep during her nap and at night. How do I get her to drink it out of a cup?

My 2 year old son has some speech problems and can be a very aggresive little boy. I sit down with him each day and try to work on his alphabets and numbers with him but I can't get him to show any interest in them. All he does is fight with me about it. I have had him looked at by a couple specialists and they say everything is fine with him except for his speech. They told me to start with the Flash Cards. I was just hoping to get another parents idea on how I can help him be more interested in them?? Please only serious answers.

Ive just moved my 1 year old daughter into the same room as her older 3 year sister and into a bed instead of a cot. She used to sleep through perfectly but not anymore. She now wakes at least once a night and the only thing which settles her is a bottle of milk. Ive tried to give her water instead of the milk, it worked for a few nights but now it doesnt. I cant just ignore her as iv tried and she doesnt give up and also wakes her sister up too. I didnt have any problems like this with her sister. How can I get her to sleep through again and stop having milk during th night?

My son has been watching The Incedibles and also has a thing for The Mask with jim Carrey. He has been pretending to "shoot" people by making those noises-and has now been given a small gun off his big half brother. I wasn't happy about this but should I really be concerned, just let boys be boys? I tried confiscating when he was asleep but the hiding spot was obviously stupid as he found it the next day.

I have started teaching my 3 year old the alphabet, colours and numbers. We choose one color a week, a number a day and a letter per week that we work on and find in books etc. I was discussing this with someone and they thought you weer "supposed" to start with shapes and colours first. What are your thoughts and ideas on where to begin teaching pre-schoolers?

I had my son in an ER in michigan for severe vomiting and possible dehydration. They left us in the waiting room for an hour and a half with my son lethargic and only waking to vomit, then dozing back off. When i finally got upset enough and yelled at the nurses, they took him into the trauma room, where we waited another 20 minutes before being seen by a Dr, who only performed a strep test and left the room. Another 15 minutes went by with no one checking on him, until he vomited again all over himself and the sheets. I asked the nurse for a new sheet for his bed and she said they were too busy and gave me a pad to put down on top of the vomit and left. I was very angry and got my son dressed and went to leave...The Dr said i had to sign him out AMA and that he would report me via a 3200 to child protective services...My son is now fine, not sick anymore...but can CPS do anything for me taking him out of there when they werent doing anything anyway?

She's 20 months old. The type of situation I am referring to is one that happened afternoon: I am sitting on the floor with my son and daughter. My 8 month old son is on the floor, laying on his back. My daughter reached down and basically clawed his face. Her thumb went in his mouth and one finger went in his eye. And then she squeezed. So I snatched her up and spanked her butt. She cried and came to me for hugs and kisses. I comforted her and then made her kiss him and be gentle. I told her why I spanked her, because she hurt her brother on purpose.

Should I comfort her like that after she's been bad?

This weekend my little nephew is turning ONE, and I have no clue what to get him. He could barely walk yet, he rolls around and crawls more actually, so I don't know if he can even play with toys. Rattle toys and squeaky toys are kind of boring for him. My last result would be clothing, but it's nothing too special. Any fantastic ideasssss ? =D Help please!

I actually had to pick him up from school cause of his bullying towards other children. I've talked to my pediatricion but they just say it's a stage...but it's been getting worse over the past few months. Nothing has changed at school or home. I'm so afraid cause he starts regular school this fall. I don't want him to be labeled the bully! How do I stop this behavior?

My daugher just turned 2, and we're going to give up the pacifier later this month. She uses it for sleeping at night, naps, and sometimes in the car. I feel that the cold turkey method is the best idea. She is a happy, smart kid who I feel is up to giving it up: I just wonder how it went for other kids/parents around this age. Thanks!

At what age do you feel that its no longer appropriate for a son to be around mom while she is getting dressed, or daughter to be around dad?
The people who say it's never ok, please tell me about how your parents were?
