The terrible twos, really it starts much earlier than that like as soon as they can crawl ... The best method of handling them is everytime they act up like are being difficult why not run over and give them a T spoon of choclate ice cream??? It works they are so much better and it trains them too... I have tried this with my daughter Mara everytime she squeaks I run over with a T spoon of ice cream... Try it but give it like at least a week and you will see the results for yourself....

Last night our pet budgie died suddenly, and we have had to try and explain to our 2 1/2 year old what has happened. We're not religious, so we don't believe in a heaven or a god, and it's difficult trying to get her to understand what death is and that it hasn't actually gone anywhere, but that it won't be coming back either.

Can anyone tell me how you've dealt with similar situations, or what you would say in the same situation?

my 2 year old is a bully!! she lashes out at other children for no reason and also hits out at myself and her father if she doesnt get her own way. she has also resorted to tantrums whenever we are out and about. we've tried the naughty chair, sending her to her room and ignoring her behavour. i have found myself smacking her now and i hate myself for this as it just makes me depressed and guilty. she is a very bright child and quick for her age, most people think she acts like a 3 or 4 year old. im due another baby in may next year and hope to resolve this before then. i have an 8 year old and an 18 year old also and didnt have these problems with them.

My 2 year old daughter eats every meal like it is her last. She literally crams things down with both hands, and you can hear her swallow it in big gulps. She is not chewing most of the time, she just swallows. She will eat all 24 hours of a day if you let her, and she can drink a 32 oz soda down and then another within an hour. She has a ferocious appetite! But yet she is only 25 lbs! I have seen her drink down a cup of soda without taking a break once! It is not normal. I have told the doctor this and she seems unphazed. My daughter's diapers sometime has whole chunks of food where she didn't chew it ! Is this normal?

my daughter had a touch of croup during the summer and we brought her over to casualty as i did not know what it was, she was put on a nebulizer for a few minutes and she was fine after that. She woke at 5 o clock this morning all weezy with that barking cough. Is there anything i can do for her myself instead of waiting 2-3hrs in casualty for 5 mins of treatment? Shes three by the way and she seems ok now but i expect it will happen again in the morning

I started taking my 20 month old daughter to a parent and toddler group over a month ago.
Personally i hate going but i was doing it for my daughter thinking it would help with her social skills but i sit there watching the kids either playing on their own or grabbing toys from one another !!!
I always watch what my daughters doing so as i can correct her if i see her taking a toy from a child that it still playing with it !! But everytime someone makes a grab for her and pushes her over the other mothers just sit ther gabbing and drinking Tea ! My daughter seems to be quite timid and lets them take the toy and looks as if she doesn't know whats going on !!! This angers me as the other parents don't do anything about it !!!
I don't want to go back to the group now as i don't see what my daughter is getting out of this at all !!!
Am i being selfish if i keep her away from it and just leave the social thing till she goes to nursery ????
Am i a silly mum ????

I need opinions. I live in the Seattle area and my daughter is almost 11 and my son is a very lively boy at almost age 1. I'm a stay at home mom and I am wondering if a dog would be good to have? I've always loved bigger family type dogs like retrievers But I also like medium sized bichon Frise or something of that type. I am not one to like to pick up poop but I spose I'd learn.

We live in a towhome (3 stories) too with no yard, but we can walk the dog..I doubt that would be an issue. I'm sure with a dog I'd need to get a "sitter" for when we go out of town, turn my smaller car into a mini van to transport the dog as well.

Would a dog really entertain my son? I've always wanted a 3rd child, but a dog may be a good substitution.

Oh My God! The other day my husband and I were eating at a restaurant and we had my daughter at the end of the table in a high chair. She is 18 months old by the way. Anyway, the waitress wouldn't stop touching my daughter and playing with her. We couldn't eat comfortably for the entire meal. We finally decided to move my daughter to the farthest end of the table that way she couldn't get to her and maybe she would get the picture, but nope she didn't. She moved the other table and chairs to get across to my daughter. She kept asking kisses from my daughter and almost came close to actually kissing her at one point. It was very annoying. What would you have done?

I have a almost 5 year old daughter who has slept in my wife and my bed for most of her life. Now we are moving her to her own bed, but she is not transitioning well. She fights us up and down and makes up stories of monsters in her room just to get back into our bed.

We also have a 8 month old who is sleeping in her own crib from the start. The two girls share a room, so when the oldest crys and throws a fit, she wakes up the baby.

Any seasoned parents who have gone through anything similar? My wife and I learned the hard way not to have the baby stay in the bed past the first few months, but we have our hands full with our oldest.

Thanks!

My son is two and a half and I would like to give him a chance to make friends or at least have more social interactions with kids his age. He always loves playing with other kids at the park and such but other than that he has no other kids to play with. I don't know if I should join a mommy and me class, start him in preschool or what. Does anyone know of a good place to get information on Preschools or other activities? I am Looking for somewhere in the Morgantown, WV area.

My 1 year old was bit yesterday at a birthday party for a 2 year old.. the 2 year old was the one that bit him. My son was bit so hard, that today, you can still see the other kid's teeth prints as clear as you could as soon as he was bit yesterday.

The parents did nothing to chastize the child at all. They didn't tell him it was wrong, they didn't put him in time out.. they didn't do anything.

The father is my husband's good friend, and I could care less about either one of them.. now, I don't think I'd ever be able to go back over there without spouting some words that shouldn't be said, or disciplining their kid myself ( he's frequently hurting my son and nothing is done about it)

My husband says that it will ruin his friendship with the guy if I hate his woman, and him, and their kids.. should I get over it? Cause I don't think I can.

He likes to tell me no when I ask him to do something and hits people. I don't know exactly how to disipline him correctly besides to yell and obviously it's not getting anywhere. My husband is away right now in the military and he had no problem listening to daddy. Now that I'm living at my grandparents house while he's away, he just seems to get worse and worse and he also has a problem with squeeling that just bothers the crap out of me. I am due anytime now with our second boy. How can I get things straightened out around here without feeling so exhausted by the end of the day?

My son is very big for his age. Where most 4 year olds are about 35-40 pounds and about 4.5 feet tall, my son is almost 90 pounds and 5.5 feet tall.. he's 4.. with a 4 year old mentality. Since I realized that he was bigger than other kids (around 2) I have been trying to be extra vigilant when it comes to him hitting other kids. He's very strong, and he's much bigger, and I've been putting emphasis on " You're much bigger than other boys and girls your age, and you have to be careful not to hit people, because you might hurt them " ... sort of along the lines of " With great power comes great responsibility thing. Well, my son gets picked on alot, and he takes it very well because that's what I've been teaching him. My husband ( who is also very tall ) doesn't like what I've been teaching our son. He was taught the same thing as a child, and he resented never being able to defend himself as a child because he was bigger.
Whose right?

My 16 month old bit my neighbor's daughter. How can I stop this behavior? She tries to bite other children but I always manage to stop her in time. This time, I couldn't stop her in time and she bit my neighbor's child. I feel really, really terrible about it. I know that she's not able to use her words yet and biting is her way of dealing with things (not that it excuses her biting someone) but I don't want her to bite. How can I change this behavior? She's barely talking so she doesn't have the ability yet to express in words what she feels. She's otherwise very sweet and very loving. Thanks for the advice!
