What behaviors does your child exhibit, and how do you correct them? I'm finding discipline to be much different with my autistic tot than for my other two children. She bites, kicks, scratches, punches, anything to inflict pain. She frequently bites herself or bangs her head on the floor or wall. I'm afraid she's going to harm herself, but she seems to feel no pain, and takes joy in others' pain (that she inflicts, that is.) She is also still non-verbal at 32 months old. What has worked for you?

Our beloved full-time sitter of three years is leaving us next week, getting married and moving out of state. She has been with Max every day since he was six weeks old and he dearly loves her and she adores him. How have you explained a sitter leaving in a way that makes sense to a toddler, knowing they won't likely see them again? (I am already bracing for tears all around for the adults...)

He will also be starting at a daycare (big new experience) the following week and transition by going for two hours a day this week.

We handled the death of one of the cats last year, but this time I'm at a loss.

I was ready one of the questions and everyone is saying they need to know certain things to go to kindergarten. What if they dont does this mean they dont go? Some of the things listed were writing his name, knowing his alphabet, and other such things. Are there actually requirements for kindergarten?

I have been doing flashcards and little preschool worksheets with my four year old. He is having difficulty picking up the letter recognition. Any ways to help him learn this? He will be starting school next year and I am trying to get him prepared. Also if any body knows what all they need to know by kindergarten it would be a great help. Thank you.

It's a baby harness and I have one. Before my daughter started walking I was like, "No way am I going to have my daughter on a leash!!" Well now she's walking and I had to buy one. My view has completely changed on this product because I know that with this product my daughter is always within a few feet of me and can never just run off. Children at the age of 18-24 months run off all the time whether parents are watching them or not and I think this is a great product now. What do you think? Give me your OPINION and tell me why or why not! Thank You!

Our son's birthday is in January and we have a small home so entertaining all the grandparents etc isn't really an option.
Has anyone else had spring or summer parties for their kids and if so how can you not confuse the child? I don't want to spoil him with 2 parties a year...let alone 2 days of gifts.
Any suggestions?

My son goes to a really good daycare. He loves it there and has learned so much. The past year, he will take spells were he is almost unbearable to be around at daycare. He will hit his friends and kick and hit the teachers when they put him in time out. This isn't something that happens every day..just every once in a while and it never lasts for more that a couple of days at a time. Yesterday was the first time in 3 months that he's had a bad report from his daycare. Is he going through a phase? How can I get it into his little head that he needs to straighten up and treat his teachers and friends with more respect.

She doesn't care if she is in a dirty or wet diaper all day and never has. She knows that she should pee in the potty and wants to wear underwear like her friends but won't tell me or her babysitter when she pees/poops. How do I get her to reliably tell me when she needs to go to the bathroom? She'll be 3 in January and I'd really like her to be trained by then. If you put her on the potty, she'll try to go(and sometimes is successful) but she never goes on her own and oftentimes refuses to go. Please help! I'm so sick of pull-ups and diapers.

Me and my hubby don't know what to do about him anymore. When he says he's thirsty we tell him "water" because we know he wants juice and he throws himself on the floor and starts screaming at the top of his lungs or says "no" and starts whining. He does this when ever we ask or tell him to do something. He has started this within the past couple of months and we have tried everything to get him to stop. I don't know what esle to do. Any suggestions?

My son, Whom is 18 months old, WIll NOT stop spitting!!!! It is driving both his father and I absolutely NUTS! Anytime we give him something to drink, He takes a BIG drink and spits it back out at us!! He makes a mess of himself and everything around him. What can I do to stop this NASTY behaviour?!?!?

We take the sippy away from him when he does it, But it doesn't phase him, He just goes on about his business, And it's not like we can just quit giving him drinks all together?! We also firmly tell him no, and explain why we're taking the sippy, And as a very last resort, we have lightly tapped his mouth, telling him 'NO!!! spitting is NASTY'...to no avail.

Any suggestions as to what we can do????
