My son just turned one last week, so recently i sit him on the potty and he will poop.. and he giggles everytime he hears it plop into the water..lol.. but i aint quite sure he gets the idea of peeing in it. should i stop and let him go in his diaper, even though we already switched him over to pull ups.... or am i at a good start with him already?

oh well thanks so far, and if anyone was curious, my son will start like gruntin at me.. and pullin at his diaper/ pull up. and i took that as a sign of he had to poop. so i just ran him to the big potty, cause he hates the baby potty. and he will grunt til he is poopless..lol... and then im like "all done" and he jsut jibber jabbers.. but i make him have eye contact. and i shake head yes or no.. and i just pay attention to see if he understands me. i just wish he would pee to. ya know. but i only just began, im sure he will get the hang of peeing here shortly. Thank you all for all the advice so far :) i really appreciate it :)

Wow..you sound like you're doing everything right!
It sounds like he's ready to start training, but since he's only 1 you have plenty of time to get him trained. Just say to him "Good job pooping in the potty! Are you going to go pee in the potty too?" Maybe he just doesn't realize that the toilet is for both pooping and peeing. Tell him he can go pee in the toilet too and have him try it. Good luck and good job with him :-)

Wait until he shows and interest in it. You've already started the potty training phase. Just keep talking to him about going potty in the toilet, let him see you and dad in the act of peeing, and ask him every now and then if he needs to pee.
Eventually he will connect the urge to pee with the act, and decide he wants to give it a go.
I wouldnt actively MAKE him do anything at this stage. Youve already got a great foundation, and coperation from him. Dont push it, just keep educating him about it and training him how its done. Hold him accountable for it when he's older.

It's important not to push it, even though he does show some interest. We never actually "trained" our daughter...she did it herself. we just kept her potty in the bathroom, and let her come in when we had to go. She simply learned by observation. It took from about 18 months to 2 1/2 to seal the deal. Finally my mother advised us to put her in undies. She said as long as she's wearing a diaper she will go in it. Mom was right. It's been 6 months, and only 4 accidents! I'm not at all suggesting that you put your 1 year old in big boy undies; That's appropriate later, when they have more control over their functions. Good luck!

If you have the time you may want to take him to the potty every hour. Once he pees, it gets a little easier because he will have the idea. If you have already switched him to pull ups, I would not switch him back because they can forget what they've learned about using the potty.

Just check with your pediatrician to be sure. I remember mine told me that because 12 month olds can't control their bladder and bowels yet - it was too young to start them...he said you could get them use to the potty - just realize they can't help accidents until they are nearly two years old. My son started on the potty around 18 months. He too would poop on da pottie without too many accidents first - was all done with that before 2 - but took him until just over two years old to not have accidents as far as wetting himself.
Sounds like your off to a great start! : -)

I haven't even gotten my son to use the toilet, and he will be two next month. You are doing everything right, just keep at it, and he will get the idea, he is still young. How did get him to poop in the toilet? My son loves peeing in it, but he isn't really into it. Can you give me some pointers?

You're at a great start. He's got an interest in using the toilet but lacks the mental capacity to understand the process completely. Be patient and keep on doing what you're doing. It takes several months to complete training.

I would keep him pooping on the toilet, he may pee while pooping and then realize that is where he is suppose to go. Good job. My son is 2 and a half and refuses to sit on the toilet.

of course he is ready to be potty trained, sooner the better in my books. give him a T spoon of ice cream evertime he pees in the toilet soon he will be peeing like the big boys. This works for all kinds of problems.

If he is feeling the sensation of needing to poop, he is ready for training. Just be patient with him and go forward. Give him some kind of a reward for each time he makes it to the toilet. The reward doesn't have to be candy! Good luck.
