If you are going to invest money into a "game" system for you son, I would suggest that you get a Leapster L-Max. My son (age 3) and daughter (age 6) both have one and the games are amazing. We also have a system similar to a V-smile, and it does not get used as much as the Leapsters. This is a system that can truly grow with them.
You can view it here at: http://www.leapfrog.com/do/findproduct?ageGroupKey=preschool&key=lmax
Also, the customer service line is amazing. We have had a few problems with the Leapster and we have gotten replacement pieces with no problem. This is a company that aims to please.

Video games are an awesome way to teach kids to love learning. I had "Mather Blaster" for our Texas Instruments way back in the day and I loved it. It made learning math so much fun.

If he seems like he'd be interested in the Vsmile, then get it! I see at Toys R Us, it's $35 and $15 for each additional game (cheaper than the prices you've listed).

obviously it is your decision on what to get your child but i just wanted to add my opinion on video games and children. children play video games far too often these days instead of being outside playing etc. getting a child used to playing such games at 4 years old will only teach him this is normal. get him some really good learning games to do together and enjoy as mother and son. where you can talk about actions and pictures on cards. its really enjoyable and your son will love the person to person contact and attention. i think alot more nicer things can be bought for 70 dollars which he will enjoy alot more.

My son has one and we love it .It has helped him learn so many things . He is four and we already have gotten him a few of the six to eight games . He loves playing this and I would much rather him play this than another game system that has violence or something on it.

If it's something that teaches more than one thing (for example colors, ABC's,123's, shapes, manners, etc.) then it's definetly worth the money. I recently bought my 15 mo. old the Leap Frog learning table which does all of the above except manners. It was pricey, but my daughter LOVES it!!

Yes, my 4-year old has the VsmIle pocket (so we can take in the car) and he loves it. All the games are educational so you dont have to worry about violence and all that that comes with Playstation or Nintendo.

I bought one for my son and he just loves it.

I'd say it's worth it.

if its fun then he will learn fast, so i guess it depends on which game you buy.

KIND OF......... BUT NOT REALLY... IT DEPENDS ON YOUR CHILD. THE GAMES ARE NOT REALLY WHAT YOU THINK.
