Thanks for everyone that answered. The nurse at the hospital said it should pass on its own, but wow that really scared me, I just happened to be on here when it happened. I know what to look for, I'm not supposed to worry

You can wait for it to come out. When my Daughter was a toddler she swallowed a dime. I took her to get an xray.. none showed up, but she told me she ate it. The xray tech actually said they are most worried when a child swallows a quarter because of it's the size of their airway.
The advice I got at the time was to keep track of her bowel movements to be sure it comes out.

She is fine as long as she can breath and swallow. Watch to make sure it passes. If it does not pass within 3 days contact the doctor.

As long as she didn't choke, she should be just fine. I used to work at a children's clinic and we got calls like this all the time. Our phone nurse always said the same thing--as long as it went down okay, no need to worry.

I would wait and see if it passes though you should probably check her stools for the next few days. It you don't spot it in 3 or 4 days then you may want to take her in. Alternatively, call your Ped and ask him/her what to do.

I would not listen to anyone on here when it comes to life or death or the health of your most precious gift. If you wait and it gets stuck she could die.....if you take her in and all works out fine...what did it hurt? Call the doctor and get it checked out...that is the person you NEED to ask about this one. Good luck sweetie...let us know how it all works out! I wish the best though.
Good luck and God bless!

Did she swallow it completely? You cannot be sure. Take her to the hospital, it is far better to have her checked. She could develop a problem...

Just to be safe, I would take her in as the penny could become stuck in her digestive system.

Wait a couple of days for it to pass, if you don't find it call the doctor.

As long as she's not choking or acting uncomfortable, I'd just wait. If you're really nervous, call your doctor and s/he'll give you further advice. Good luck!
