I have heard that if a child hits or bites you you should show them how it feels. My 3 year old daughter slapped her baby brother on the face 2x and then I slapped her on the cheeck - not hard but to show her - I feel terrible about it. She is going through those terrible 2's/3's. I wish I hadn't done that (slapping her on her face) but then other people have said that it is good way to teach them - do you agree or disagree???

my son and one of his teammates were discussing the game (the opposing team was playing dirty) and how their team can improve. One of the kids from my sons team over heard the conversation and started cussing, using every 4 letter word in the book. Told the other kid 'Go back to your own country! Puerto Rico, Mexico. I don't care, just go back there'. The kid is a natural US citizen. Then used the N word. I never liked the way the kid plays. I know it's legal in basketball, but it's very poor sportmanship to put your hand over the opposing teams eyes when they have the ball.

How can parents let their kids get that bad? See this behavior and not do anything about it?

The child is being kicked off the team. The coach was right on top of it once she heard what had happened.

CA is trying to pass a law that states that children under three years old may not be spanked. Violaters stand to face six months in jail.

I for one will be voting for this to pass. Small children don't have the mental capability for memory when it comes to right and wrong. I think it's sad that so many parents have stopped trying to teach children and they hit them to get their attention instead. This will force many people to PARENT their children. Bravo California!!!

i need some help on discipining my neice. she is 6 she is always hitting my son who is 7( they recently came to live with me) i don't want to teach my son to hit girls i have always taught him that this is unacceptable behavior. however i am not going to allow him to be her punching bag. i have tried a couple of times to spank her, but i really don't feel that this is going to solve the problem. i need some suggestions on what approach i should take in this situation. i am at a loss and at my wits end with it. i should also add that she has had a bit of a troubled life., father in and out of jail, mother that is neglectful emotionally to her, i have also tried talking to her about it, nothing seems to be working . help!!! serious answers only please!

If you have kids do you tend to view things in life as right/wrong, good/evil, etc,etc compared to when you were childless and viewed everything in life as a shade of grey....there is nothing absolute......no black/white. The reason is that Einstein had a theory about this but unfortunately died before he got to test out his hypothesis. Please me your experiences?

So what next? We get fined or put in jail for spanking our children on the butt or hand? I don't think it's okay to slap your child in the face or use excessive force, but I think if the government steps into our personal lives and tells us how to raise our children, our nation will be in trouble.

What are your thoughts? And please no flaming or dumb comments or judgements of how I feel. I just want intellectual comments here. Thanks.

This is for a class paper so i am not looking for advice i am looking for peoples life experiences

so far i have learned that many people do actually spank their children still, and a spanking is generally defined by using your hand, and leaving a red mark that last no longer then ten minutes. and seem to begin this at around one year of age.

I am compairing the next generations dicapline tactics to my own generations; as a child, personally, my mother used a switch or a wooden spoon and she'd tan my hide, so to speak. fearing the willow tree was common because parents with a willow tree would share with parents without. but i am wondering how todays standard of discipline stands. and i don't ever remember being too young to recieve a spanking. though my mother disagrees. heh..

thanks everyone for your imput it should make an interesting compairable paper.

I have three kids ages 9,8, and 2. I am leaving a 6 yr relationship with my youngest childs father who has been keeping the children while I work and attend school. I gave him 30 day to move out b/c of his constant mental abuse, I have stayed b/c childcare became an issue when add the two yr old financially. My ex's mother who lives on a fixed income offered to babysitt in my home if I pick her up and drop her off at home. I intially turned the offer down b/c I was not sure that if I ended the relationship how she would feel. Now I don't care and in need of a reliable, affordable sitter and who better than family. Problem is how to keep her son out of my home while I am away. Grandma is a softy and do not want him having accsess to my home while I am away. I am dating someone new and not exactly sure of how she would perceive the situation. I work 12 hr shifts overnight and attend class at a university an hour each way from home. Would grandma be a good idea?

I live in a duplex and my apartment is the end unit which is next the garage that belongs to the people in the apartment on the other end. Every night at about 2-3:00 am Im awakened by the noise they are making in the garage - whether its someone knocking on the garage door or them scuffling around. Its about 10 degrees outside at that time of night. I have suspicion that they are using drugs (Im not the kinda person who is suspicious of everyone) and so does everyone else who knows whats going. They have 2 small kids that are left in the apartment by themselves and I have 2 kids that are in the room next to the garage. Im not only worried about their kids but mine as well. Should I call the police next time they are in the garage at that time and call CPS or mind my own buisness?

Should I really get punished for getting a D in Biology? I mean, its not like i'm just not doing anything. I get B's or A's on tests, and I just have a problem with getting homework in. They will probably take away my Playstaton. I know my grades aren't up to Par, but i've barely even touched my Playstation since I got it. They keep it in their room until the weekends, and my homework has to be finished in order for me to play it. I just don't want to lose it and not even play it on the weekends. Okay I have 6 honors classes, one AP class and a Programming class. I have one D, One C, and the rest are B's. I tripled up on Science. Chemistry, Biology, and Biotechnology. Don't I need a break?

I love her to death but recently she came to visit at my house with me and my boyfriend and his twins. She will not stop trying to control our house. I'm a christian and all but everytime I play rap/R&B in the car with the twins she losses it. See I'm 18 he's 20 and the twins are 2. I've raised them since they were only 3 newborns. They are basically mine. They know they have another mother but she is crazy. They call me mom something I never told them to do. Anyway she continues to try to pressure me to breakup with him because he has tattoes and long hair. One night she randomly walked in our room and tried to get me to move out the guest room because he had his shirt off!She tried to force us to say grace. Normally we just say "1...2...3...GO!" and start eating. She continues to whine about the fact that I we are not married and share a room. When we shopped at the mall I bought some leather shoes for each of the girls and she moaned about how cruel it was. I have continued to-c-

I was watching Maury when I got home, and I'd previously been thinking about my friends, who are identical twins. Thinking of them at the same time of watching the results of a paternity test made me think. Are paternity tests successful when twins are fighting over who the father is? There's not really a way to tell by the look of the child, if they are identical twins. Does this mean they have the same blood, and that a paternity test would say that they are both the father? I was just wondering...

spanked as a child turned out to be a respectful adult and citizen. Some of the parents that I know use "time out" hhave out of control kids that are on ADD medicine to calm them down. I dont get it! My question is-Do you ever think kids are they way they are today(not all kids but many of them) because of the no spanking idea that some parents are using? I see kids kicking, hitting their parents and I just think to myself "If they would spank their bottom the child would quit the behavior because they know their is a consequence for that type of behavior".

Whenever I take my two kids (5 yr. old son and 3 yr. old daughter) to the pool at our YMCA it's such a hassle to get all three of us out of the pool, get our swimsuits off, and get into the shower. The other day, I had just accomplished this and put the shampoo in my hair when I realized I had to pee. I felt embarrassed to go in the shower, but at the same time there was no way I was going to drag my naked self and two naked little kids out of the shower just so I could pee, so I tinkled in the shower. Anyway, my son announced it to everyone in the shower (no partitions between showers), and several women gave me dirty looks. Was I wrong for doing what I did? I know I probably shouldn't have, but was the alternative any better?

I am trying to decide whether or not to continue to let my sister in law watch my son for me. Even though she has her own job and family, she changed her schedual some in order to watch him 4 days a week. This, I am thankful for. The thing is, he is almost 18 months old and I am very strict about what I will let him eat because he has no teeth yet, so I am keeping him on #2 baby food jars. My sister inlaw seems to think that he is not getting enough nutrients and that he at least needs to be eating #3's. She says he acts hungry and whiney a lot, and I found out that she allowed my mother in law to come to her house and she (my mother in law) fed him two #3 jars of food. Two jars of it!! Can youbelieve that! I think he can't handle these even though they insist that he ate them with no problems. I kind of got mad and told her that having no teeth at 18 months means he is healthy, unlike her kids who got teeth at 3 months and 6 months old - that is unhealthy!
