Whenever I take my two kids (5 yr. old son and 3 yr. old daughter) to the pool at our YMCA it's such a hassle to get all three of us out of the pool, get our swimsuits off, and get into the shower. The other day, I had just accomplished this and put the shampoo in my hair when I realized I had to pee. I felt embarrassed to go in the shower, but at the same time there was no way I was going to drag my naked self and two naked little kids out of the shower just so I could pee, so I tinkled in the shower. Anyway, my son announced it to everyone in the shower (no partitions between showers), and several women gave me dirty looks. Was I wrong for doing what I did? I know I probably shouldn't have, but was the alternative any better?

That is never OK!!!! That's nasty. Wait and go to the toilet to do that, or go to the toilet before getting into the shower.

It's not like you're the first one to do it. I understand that it's really hard to drag your naked kids to the toilet and then back in the shower. It's too much of a hassle. I wouldn't recommend it all the time, but at that situation, I would've done the same. The alternative was so much harder on you, so you should ignore the others who give you dirty looks because they probably just don't understand the whole mom-pulling-around-kid thing.

Yeah Steph that is normal espec when toilet is far away. Can't help it really - warm running water - we have 2 go! When U have kidos - hard get 2 toilet! It's clean. U can drink it in emergency. OK 4 acne, fungus, insect / jellyfish sting & warts. On urself, not others! In pool do U smell it? Stand close 2 shower wall, aim @ gutter no 1 notice. Is the boy old enuf 2 shower by himself not so annoying? ( May be why they gave "looks"? ) Surch 4 "pee bath shower" & how many hits U get. Asume U mean pee standing don't drop pants & squat.

That was perfectly okay in that situation. Those people who gave you mean looks in the shower should be more worried about all the sweat and hair that goes in that shower, not a little pee that got washed down the drain right away.

There are support groups for this. Peeing in the shower dates back to the anceint Incas. It was a sign of good luck and prosperity. I probably would have peed on the lady who gave you the dirty look.

I pee in the gym showers all the time. Here is how I pull it off. I know it harder at the why showers though. The gym I have now has seperated stalls. There is small channel about 3 inches wide by 3 inches deep at the back of the stall which takes the water to a common drain. I aim it towards there. I ususally try to get the one near the drain, cause for me its like clockwork. I can go before, but once that water hits me...I have to go again.

Ok, now one piece of opinion. A 5yr old being in an opposite gender locker room is too old. It now only causes embarrasment for them but other gym patrons. Maybe you should think about utilizing the family locker rooms if your Y has them.

As with anything in life, it's always ok if your neighbor is ok with it. So times i've done it, with permission:

One time i really had to go and the urinals were on the other side where the floor was filthy and didn't want to walk barefoot

Back in middle school, was the only kid on my hockey team with foreskin and they asked me while in the shower how i peed with it....so i showed them. This was tricky cause it was one of those pole columns so i had to aim precise

Either way, whether it's frowned upon or not, the water from a toilet and shower go to the same place, and the remains that arn't totally drained should be cleaned up anyways by a janitor if the place has any hygiene at all.
It's okay :]

I know what it is like to have to drag your kids everywhere. My son always has to go potty at the supper market when the cart is full and the restroom is on the other side of the store. I would have done the same thing!

NEVER! Do you want your children growing up thinking they can pee in showers? Would you like to get into a shower that someone just peed in? If your bladder is so weak that you couldn't hold it until you were done then you need to go to your doctor and get medication.
