I guess it depends on exactly what you're including in this category, but you say excluding cake, party favors, etc. so probably around $40 to $60 would probably take care of it.

Excluding cake, party favors, etc...
So...to rent a place, less than $50, and that is pretty steep. They're 5, they'll hardly remember.
A present...Only one present from you if you are throwing a party. Choose one, and make it relatively cheap. You're paying for a party so that others can have a good time...and in turn, they should bring presents.

For a 5 year old one larger toy and a couple smaller ones. Not going over $50. On their 6th birthday $60, 7th birthday $70 and so on. Yes this gets high specially when you get to 18th birthday and so on but on their 7th 8th 9th you can start a flat rate of like $75- $100 for every year after that.

I spend $10-$15, relying on the position the party is being held (like i'll spend $15 if that is someplace i understand expenses more effective for a celebration, like Chuck E Cheese). At that age, you may get some somewhat large childrens' toys interior the $10-$15 variety, like warm Wheels instruments for boys or Squinkies instruments for females (or boys too, i wager). I were given fortunate at Christmastime this previous 3 hundred and sixty 5 days and accrued some $10 distant administration autos that were easily tremendously positive, that they had them at Harbor Freight and JCPenney for $10. i attempt to bypass searching all 3 hundred and sixty 5 days for bargains like that and %. up a pair if i'll to have accessible for activities - stuff that seems expensive, yet would not spoil the monetary organisation!

hmmm - well if you're excluding the cake and the party favors and so forth, then what would you be spending money on outside of the potential rental fees if you decide not to have a party at your house?

Not sure if you mean on the party or on their bday present...if you were talking about the present...doesn't have to be expensive...just something that will be special to them or will have meaning. :)

I think it depends on your income. If you can afford a moonbounce and it would be fun, do so.

I've found the key to our parties, and people love 'em, is to have a fun treasure hunt for the kids where they solve clues that lead that to other clues that lead them to a pinanta. Also, we have had lots of success with using two small boxes as dice, covering them with paper and writing a command on each side. Kids roll both dice and do what they say "sing like an opera star" and "Hop up and down on one foot" or whatever. Kids love it.

Also, balloons. Tie a balloon to everyone's ankle - among kids who are basically the same size - and have everyone stomp on each other's balloons while protecting their own.

35 bucks should do it for those games.

I spent about $200 for the place we threw the party at. With the exclusions it was even more. I envited the whole class and it made my shy kid outgoing and more popular. This year's party we had at home. Rented a bounce house $85, bought lots of hay bails $50 (for extra seating)(made a fort later and the kids loved it!) and a pinata $20. It's alot more work to do it yourself.

How ever much you can afford. If you can only spend $40 then spend $40. Kids that age love the little toys that can cost $2 so you can always get alot of small cheaper things and then one big item.

My daughter's 5th birthday was held in a local gymnastics center with an air bouncer. The kids loved it. It cost $99, but I didnt have to decorate or clean up... so it was worth it. I honestly dont even remember what her gift from me was (Christmas in between is confusing me!) but I think I spent maybe another $25.

Just presents? No more than about $50, if he was also having a party.
