My friend was in a very bad relation ship with a guy who was in and out of the house when ever he wanted and payed no attention to his twin boys. The guy was using methamphetemeins, sold his kids video games, slept all day while he kept the kids in the room. At one point he spanked the 3 year old boys with a belt because they got up to go to the restroom. Her relationship went on for six years with this guy who was never realy at home. The kids are six now and dont ask for their father who when they mention they mention by his first name not "dad". The father does'nt call for the kids birthdays and is currently in jail right now but will be getting out soon to fight for custody rights for the kids. Do you think this man has the right to eny custody with the kids? Please Help With Your Good Advice. Thank You.

I'm a mom who is preparing to move my 9 yr old daughter to FL from OH. This will take place within the next 6 to 8 weeks. I am extremely concerned about her father's reaction to our moving (never married but he has had weekly contact with her). My husband, our 15 month old, the 9 yr old and myself have a happy, healthy life and feel that we can all endure the stress that this will present but I don't know how to tell the 9 yr old's father or the 9 year old herself. Her father- who will remain in Ohio is argumentative and negative about most small issues. He will surely show his feelings to everyone- including the 9 yr old. I have already been given legal advice to withhold the news until 2 weeks before the move. I really want everyone to have the least amount of stress possible and the move is definate due to a job transfer. Thanks for your time.

I need a vehicle to bring my son to school and he suggested this, so we looked at one, test drove it and liked it. I will probably go back tommorow, but I am wondering why my boy chose this one?

How and when should I talk to my kids about consequences of drug use? They are 7, 4 and 10 mos. There is a scary bad batch of heroin going around and people,(young people) are dying and overdosing. I saw first hand drug use in my family and friends growing up. Neither me or my husband do drugs. We smoke cigarettes and go out for drinks maybe once a year. I am very scared. Terrified for my kids. Not now but later. Does drug use skip a generation? Will they know that it is bad without seeing first hand the effects? No one ever talked to me and I decided on my own not to do drugs. If I talk to them will they purposely do it to spite me. If I talk to them am I giving them ideas? I am so lost on this subject. Please answer I am very scared.

I cant keep letting them watch TV! they are actually getting tired of it! and I am getting tired of them fighting over me and who i have to play with! i am also getting tired of playing with them the whole time! do you have any ideas of things they can do together w/out fighting? Things that they find boring: TV, sidewalk chalk, coloring, flashcards or anything school related. They are 5 and 9 and there is no way to stop the fighting

My mother scowls when I have told her that I would like to have children with my wife. She says she is too young to be a grandmother at 51. She said I am too young and I will regret it, I am 26 and married for two years.

She cried when I told her my wife was pregnant because she feels I could have "found a better wife" for me and that she can't believe my wife is "officially" tied to me forever since we are having a baby.

I have decided I am going to cut her off, I cannot have her act this way to me and my family any longer. I cannot "talk" to her, she is 100% unreasonable and I am starting to think she is messed up in the head!

Has anyone dealt with family members like this?

All too often I read the solutions that people have given to people having problems with their kids. Most of the answers are great but I see some answers that involve abuse of the kids by threatening abuse or shaming the child. I was just wondering if anyone out there still used this form of "disapline"? Also, what anyone else had to say on the matter. Thanks...

My son will be able to start kindergarten in the fall but he will be the youngest there probably because he just cuts it for the age requirment. He knows the alphalbet, can count to 10, and thank god is potty trained but should I wait another year so he'll be in the middle of the age range and not the youngest?

My son (4) is being baby-sat by my best friend. But a while after he had been going over to her house for a while he started swearing. I know her and her husband are having problems and often get in arguments and may swear. I believe this is where he is getting it because I don't swear by kids. How do I approach her with this concern?
