As a birthmother here is my 2 cents. It depends on the situation if you run into someone you seen a month ago or so it will look wierd you weren't prego yet you have a child then yeah maybe. There is no need to go running around telling everyone you meet on the street. People closest to you will already know. If people ask and you don't want to share the information then just say he/she is mine.. As a birthmother I see nothing wrong from not telling everyone that your child was adopted. The child is YOUR child.

I am also an adoptee and your parents should not tell people you are adopted period. Only you should be the one to tell people you are adopted otherwise you are being singled out. I was adopted and I was hurt each and every time my parents pointed out I was adopted.
My children are from my first marriage. And my husband has adopted them. And even though it is QUITE OBVIOUS that the children are not geneticly his (he is Pakistani and the kids are Irish white) He never points out that they are adopted. I always laugh when people ask him "are they your?" He always says something like a simple "yes" when he wants to be polite or "you heard them call me dad" when people are being rude.
How these kids came to be "his" is between My kids, their father, their biological father and the creator. The kids know they have another father and if they want to forward the information they are adopted it is up to them.
It is totaly rude for your parents to point it out and disregard your feelings AT ANY AGE!

Maybe you should ask the adult child how they feel about it. It's not shameful... if you've always been open about it in the past, there should be no reason to hide it... but your adult child might feel differently and want privacy.

Unless it was someone close, I see no need to share information like that.
