I'm currently cycling a 55 gallon tank (its been almost 2 weeks), and I really want to get a pike cichlid. I know their very agressive, so don't warn me not to get one please. I know that they pretty much eat anything that will fit in their mouth as well. But any information on what kind of tankmates they can live with would be great. I'm thinking about getting a dwarf pike if that helps at all. Thanks.

I sometimes think my female betta gets lonely... what kind(s) of common fish can live with her?? i am setting up a 10 gallon tank with a heater that i will keep around 80 degrees farenheight. under gravey filter cause bettas (especilly females) HATE fast current water. (I've been doing my home work and know more about them than my mom!!)

I'm trying to divide up an aquarium so I can breed my bettas and then leave them to recover in the same aquarium - therefore I need to blacken out the glass I want to put in to avoid additional stress on my breeding male and female by seeing the fry or each other.

I'm sure there must be some kind of paint being as you can get painted decorations for inside the aquarium, but I've been unable to find any.

At first I thought he was adjusting or something like that. But I've had him 5 days, not including the day I got him. I think I've seen him eat maybe 3 flakes.

He seems to swim near the top of the water sometimes and at other times near the bottom. Is that normal?

Can I use a candy thermometer to measure water temperature?

I have been doing research on the internet trying to find a combanation of fish and what knots that can be put into my 55 gallon tank with my betta. I know everyone thinks that a betta cannot get along with other fish, but I've read that all of the following can be housed with him:
Amano Shrimp, Apple Snails, Bards, Cory Catrfish, Danios, Gouramis, Guppies, Hatchets, Loaches, Minnows, Mollies, Mystry Snails, Platies, Plecos, Rasboras, Sharks, Suckermouth Catfish, Tetras and can be surrounded by Freshwater Plants.
The research I have come acrossed states that all that was listed above can be put into a tank and live peacefully amoungst one another.
I've read on some sites "not to put" bards, danios, guppies, rasboras and sharks in a tank with a betta, but other sites state "it's fine".
Does anyone know from "experience" any of what I've listed in this details space not to be safe" with a betta?

It's time to change the water in my betta's tank. He has a really nice bubble nest going. It's gonna ruin it when I change the water. Does destroying his bubble nest cause him any stress or will it be ok? I will change the water anyway, I was just wondering if it messes with the fish to have his bubble nest destroyed.

My aquarium will revolve around Discus fish so keep that in mind if you want to help. I'm trying to keep fish that are showy since it will be in my dining area.

These are the fish I'm considering:
8-10 Discus (8 inches)
10 Corydoras
4-6 German blue rams (maybe because I have to shown caution with the other fish)
4-6 Praecox Rainbow
3-4 Blue Gouramis (maybe because I have to show caution with discus)
10-15 Neon Tetras

I've read that I should keep about 1 discus for every 10 gallons. Since I have 150 gallons to work with, I figure I can keep about 8-10 with still plenty of room.

For filters, I'll have either two penguin wheel 350's (filters up to 75 gallons which will be 150) or two emperor 400's (filters up to 80 gallons which will be 160).

For aeration, if I still need need something because I'll already have two power filters, I'll use bubble walls/wands.

For heating I'll use two 250 watt heaters. Any specific brands you recommend?

Extras will be put into details.

I put the mother in a pan until she gave birth to them. Now I am wondering why long it takes until they grow up and I can put them in the fish tank without being devoured by the big mean fish. It's easier to take care of them in the fish tank and my mom needs the pan to cook.

I bought a new fish tank. The dimension are 30x12.5 inches. I wanted to buy a under gravel filter but none matches the same dimension. Should i buy a 48x13 inches or 30x12 inches. I was scared that the smaller one is too small and the bigger filter size will not fit my aquarium. Please help me!

I have a 10 gall. tank and 2 gold fish in there. I know that the temp. should be like 68-73 degrees but I just can't get it any lower than 76! I haven't put the light on in about 2 weeks and we have air-conditioning, I just can't figure it out!

I just bought a 1.7 gal tank along with a couple goldfish and after only 5 hours after I filled up the tank, the water went so dirty I can hardly see them fish through, I completely changed the water (yes I know it's wrong!) and reduced the amount of food I was feeding them with, but the same happened again.

Now I don't know what could be worse for them, to completely change the water or to leave them with that stinky dirty water.
