Sure, that's not a problem at all. I'm sure you were thinking that the Betta will attack other fish, but that's simply not true. They will attack other Bettas, but not other species.

Bettas are surprisingly good community fishes. They don't attack other fishes, but they attack their other bettas. So, if you were to keep several goldfish and several bettas in a tank, the goldfish and only 1 betta will survive.

Just make sure that the tank is large enough for them.

no, because the age old rumor of bettas will kill anything is completely wrong.

The problem is that tank isnt large enough, for a possible 12-15 inches goldfish at least. someimes larger.

The thing is goldfish are really aggressive, i have had plenty of goldfish kill bettas and other fish.

But back to bettas, ea betta is different and like pople they have different personallities, some are more aggressive and others are less. so your friend has one that is tolerant of goldifsh.

The main problem with this combination is the two completely different food requirements, along with temperature preferences. Having said that, if it works, don't fix it.

Bettas only attack other bettas.
