I have a pond with no fish. This Year we decided to get some. I just want a list of pond fish, but I would prefer tropical looking ones who can survive the cold winters of North-East United States.

Long story short, I just brought 4 little goldfish home from a carnival and I was about to go get an aquarium but I now have to go to the hospital. I don't want the little guys to die, but I'm reading that they need the tap water to either sit overnight or have something put in it, and I can't go get it for a few hours. What can I do for them so they can get out of the bag and be safe until I can get them the water stuff?

I'm having trouble locating a betta breeder that's somewhat local to me. In a few months I'm planning to get a small collection of fancy bettas (not the sort you see in the pet store) for some small tanks I'm setting up.

I've checked aquabid, and I see a lot of very pretty bettas...in Thailand. If I can avoid dealing with a transhipper I'd like to, and I'd also prefer to get all my bettas (4-6) from the same source.

If you can provide any useful links it would be much appreciated. I'm in Central California and I am still willing to ship or drive if the fish are somewhat local. Thanks.

I raise tropical fish and have heard about using Hydrogen peroxide to keep fungus from attacking unhatched eggs. For years I've been using Methylene Blue with mixed results.

Anyone have any trick on catching fish? my rust angel has a fungal infection and i cant catch him to put in a doctor tank. He is in my main reef tank and i cant catch him through the rock work. So anyone have any tricks to catching fish in a tank with intricate rockwork and many corals that i do not want to disturb?

I have had my betta fish for about two weeks, now. i change his water about every three days, and feed him every day, but he hasn't eaten in quite a few days, and he seems slower than usual.
He also sleeps a lot. Is this normal?
Thank you

I finally figured out what is killing off my mollies... I had put in some other fish from a smaller tank, and didn't realize that it would cause a nitrite spike, so now I have nitrite readings off the chart. I have done about a 30% water change this morning, but the readings are still at least 2.0ppm but not as high as 5.0 (like it was reading before). So, is it harmful to the fish to do another partial water change right away, should I wait a few hours, or even a few days?

I want to dilute it some more, but I don't want to harm them any further. Any suggestions?

I have two alge eaters. One is about 5 1/2 inches long and the other one isn't really growing. I'd say he's about 2 inches long. I got them at the same time. I have 2 10 gallon fish tanks so one went in each tank. The one that isn't growing is in with 5 other fish, cuz their's not room to growing much (fish grow accordingly to the space they have). The other alge eater, the 5 1/2 inch one, is in with 1 other small fish so thats why he's growing, he's all the space to grow. So what if I tranfer the small one into the big one's tank. Will he grow bigger? will the big one stop growing? will the big one eat the small one? I need some help here.

ok had really bad red slime, no mater how many water changes, no mater how many times I pulled all 30 pounds of live rock out and scrubbed it. The slime kept coming back.

Then I got these almost zit like white dots all over everything, the rock, the power head, inside and out of the filter...everything, hard as a rock they were took steel wool to remove it all.

Still loosing fish, still have red slime.

yesterday I lost my friggin mind, removed all remaining fish (3) pulled out every bit of live rock to find the flat 'base rock' on the bottom was covered in red looking worms with almost white looking short legs...kinda like a centipede.
Covered the bottom of each base rock looked like spaghetti.

Took all the rock outside and set in direct sun light. Really thinking about chucking every bit of it.

The sand in the bottom of the tank seems to be fulla worms to.

Should I scrap everything and start over?

Since its such a big tank I'll need some worthy equipment for it. Any particular filters, gravel vacs, air pumps/stones/wands you recommend. Should I get a kit that has everything to test the water conditions? What are some good plants I could add and what type of lighting will they need? Lastly what type of fish would you recommend?

I have a betta, cory cats, dwarf gouramis, and neon tetras at the moment. I figure I'll definatly get some corydoras as a clean up crew. How many do you recommend? What about some otocinclus catfish?? If so, how many of those? I'm also interested in tiger barbs and bala sharks. What about Cichlids?? What about some frogs or snails? Types??

I WANNA KNOW EVERYTHING I CAN ADD! PUT YOURSELF IN MY POSITION AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU WOULD DO. I WANT ALLLLLLL THE DETAILS, PLEASE!!! THANKS!!!!!

Hi,

I have a 3 feet aquarium. I used to have three bettas for about a month, but for the last couple of days, I don’t see one of the small ones (they told me at the fish store that it was a female). I assume its dead. Today I see that one of the bettas has shredded tail or you can say no tail at all (I can actually see its bare back). Apparently this is a female betta. I transferred it to a fish bowl, although my husband thought I was worrying over nothing and thought it should be left in the aquarium. I have taken some pictures of the fish, and you can see them at:

http://pets.webshots.com/album/560042890sLUEaW

I think I saw the two fish mating few days back, the other betta had its tail wrapped around this one, and when this one tried to break loose, both the bettas got part of their tails torn. I have the following questions:

1. Is this a female betta? Could it be that both the bettas are males?
2. Does my betta have tail rot disease? In that case what should I do? The only medicines I got are AquaCleaner, Aquarium salt and some anti bacterial medicine for goldfish (which among other things prevents goldfish fin rot). In the pet stores here, there are no meds for bettas.
3. Is there any way I can determine the nitrite level in my aquarium other than the kits available in pet stores (in my case, not available in the pet stores here)?

Somehow my bettas don’t seem very aggressive and seems to get along fine with the other fish. I have also placed the bowl before a mirror to see if it gets aggressive. It is also not eating anything, probably because of the new environment. Please help.

I've read that adding salt to a freshwater tank will help fight some fish diseases. What exactly does salt do, how much would you add, and which diseases does it fight? I am not planning on adding salt to my tank, but I would like to know in case it's needed for future reference. Thanks!
