I have had my betta fish for about two weeks, now. i change his water about every three days, and feed him every day, but he hasn't eaten in quite a few days, and he seems slower than usual.
He also sleeps a lot. Is this normal?
Thank you

Besides luvin's answer all the others are outrageous and completely wrong
Do yourself and especially your betta a big favor and get at least a 2.5 gallon tank with heater and filter and a live plant

When you have that you can do partial waterchanges of 25% weekly, and your fish will be happy and healthy

Most likely you have him in a bowl that isn't heated. Right? Betta's are tropical fish and when they are in cooler water they tend to be less active. Get him a heater and he should perk up.

Edit* All kind of ignorant answers going on.. 2-4 weeks before changing the water?? What the heck? If a Betta is kept in a small bowl (not a filtered tank) the water needs to be changed every 2-3 days. They are swimming in their own waste! Gee people would you like to take a dip in a bath tub that hasn't had clean water in it for 2-4 weeks? Think not and you don't even poo in there!

I have a Betta, but i don't clean his tank that often but I use bowl buddies to test the water and make sure it's safe for him, also I use salt rock to help maintain the water. But he eats like twice a day. If he starts getting spots on him (white) and keeps moving slow you should google his symptoms, that what we did with are last Betta fish, but it was to late, he had a infection. Hope this helped...Good luck!

He will be ok, dont change his water so often you are probly putting him in shock, let the water stay there longer so it has more time to get stablized and neutralized, once he is comfortable he will start to eat or try a different brand of food.
Leave the water in there at least two to 3 weeks, if allege starts to form there is to much light on your fish bowl move it so it will not get dirty looking.

Well most bettas are very "boring" laid back fish. He is probably ok but you might want to take a water sample to your local petsmart and let them test it. That or you can buy a test kit for 6-$10 and do it yourself.

hi dont clean out his water that aften he needs the water left you are only suppost to clean out the water once a week no more so leave him alone and clean the water only once a week. your taking all the goodness out the water that he needs to survive. thats what is wrong with him so leave him for a week and then do a ten percent water change and in a few weeks he will be much much better. he sleeps because he is stressed and cant live properly in the water. so please dont change any more water for a week and then do it once a week. if you need any more help feel free to email me i accept emails goldramsrule@yahoo.com

water changes can add stress, but it might be a bowel problem, which can be caused by the ammount you feed him aday,

try some aquarium salt after your next water change, and see if that helps.

Remember that bettas dont need to eat everyday, so a meal or two skipped isnt something to stress ovver.

um.......when you say sleep....................

fish don't lie down at the bottem of their tanks and take a nap. They are floating, eyes open, it looks like they are just resting.

anyways, take a water sample into your local petstaore and they will tell you if something is up with your water.
