Can fancy and normal goldfish live together?

Yes there are some that are compatable together. Like common goldfish can go with ryukin, fantails, shubumkin, comets and wakin. I would not mix any goldfish that has a modified head growth like oranda, ranchu, or lionhead. I would not mix common goldfish with modified eyed goldfish such as demekin, celestial, or bubble eye. The fancier the goldfish the slower it moves and has a difficult time competing for food. Modified eye goldfish cannot see very well, and that causes them to have a hard time competing for food as well. What will happen if you mix them is the common goldfish will be very over fed and the fancier ones will be under fed and hungry, which will stunt their growth.
Copperhead and I are right. I have kept goldfish for a very long time. I know he knows what he's talking about.

They can, but you should watch carefully that the common types (those with a single tail) don't hog all the food from the fancy types (those with rounded bodies and a double tail), because these will be slower swimmers. Some types of fancies (those with telescope, bubble, or celestial eyes) have an even harder time feeding because their vision isn't as good because of how their eyes have been developed through breeding. Bubble-eyes should almost be kept with only members of their own type because the "bubble" around the eyes are so delicate.
