There is no other fish like a goldfish. Goldfish Rule! You should feed goldfish ONCE a day and as much as they will eat in 5 minutes. Try to remove as much of the uneaten food as possible. Also for goldfish, you should pre-soak your food, both pellet as well as flake. All of these feeding rules are more special for goldfish because of goldfishes' internal structure and digestive system. And as a treat 2-4 times a week in lieu of the fish pellets or flakes, you can give them a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and protein-based treats such as brine shrimp, daphnia, bloodworms, tubifex worms, insect larvae, krill plankton, chopped earthworms carefully selected from your yard where no pesticides or fertilizers are used and chopped cooked eggs. Also, almost anything from the produce section in your supermarket. Romaine lettuce (no iceberg please), cooked fresh or thawed frozen shelled peas, melons, cucumber, grapes, oranges, spinach, parsley, dandelion leaves, broccoli, zucchini, strawberries, bananas. Parboil your tougher foods such as broccoli and carrots. Don't use anything that has been salted or flavored. Otherwise, try absolutely anything at all. They are very adventurous in the food department. You can also make them a gel food by combining baby food, such as strained peas, peas and carrots, spinach, bananas, etc. and mixing it with unflavored gelatin.

Only as much as they can eat in a few minutes. If there is food sinking to the bottom then you are feeding too much. A good rule to remember that a fish's stomach is about the size of their eye. Small, frequent feedings are best.

If you have pellet goldfish food you should feed them twice a day as much as they can eat in 1 or 2 minutes. But please make sure they eat all the food you put in before putting in more.

Fish are VERY cool....a few flakes should be fine once to twice a day, or a couple of pellets each once or twice a day. Good luck with your fishes!
