I got my dwarf puffers today and as usual they don't eat much on the first day. But i washed my tank with no soap or chemicals and my tank was cloudy. I thought it would wear off because it's hot water but it didn't!!!! Later 1 dwarfpuffer kinda went K.O. and it just floated twitching. And now another one looks like it's gonna die over night...Yup i just checked and its all swimming offbalanced now. PLEASE help me save my little poor puffer!!!

Is it my fake plants or is it the new gravel? I washed the gravel

Hi i want to set my fish tank up but i know NOTHING!!!! about fish or tanks or anything! lol so i need step by step help please!!
when i 1st set it up it was to the instructions what came with the tank. for some reason my fish dies after 3 days :-(
my tank had got like a residue on the service of the water so i think it might of been that what did it. i got told it might of been from the plastic plants and rocks i had put in. i emptied some of the water to start again but it ened up being left. now it has been standing like that for months. i emptied the rest of the water out yesterday and the glass is dirty as hell, ants had tried to build a nest in my filter (i have a ant problem in the house) and ants are now in the gravel. how do i clean it to get rid of the ants and dirty marks? is it best to put live plants in with slate or bogwood for them to hide? how do i look after live plants? how do i know if my fish are actually going to stay alive this time? PLEASE HELP!

I am setting up my 58 gallon and I would like to buy some hardy, inexpensive plants that don't need flourite. I don't need many--most of my tank is going to be caves (around 15!!) and I'll buy some plastic plants too. RIght now all I have is java moss. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was going to get a lot of rainbowfish for my new 58 gallon (3 foot) tank, but after looking at the prices of the rainbows, I've decided to cut down on them a little so I need ideas for other, fairly cheap (like $5 and lower-around $3 per fish being the best price) fish I could put into my tank. Here is what I have so far:

5 Peppered Cories
8 Flame Tetras
2 Blue Rams
2 Apistos (not sure which ones...but they're just the assorted ones on liveaquaria).

So...any ideas? I don't really have anything in mind...I'm open to pretty much everything, except I'd prefer to have something that's not in one of my other tanks (but I can make exceptions), inexpensive, fairly hardy, compatible with the above fish, and available in either my LFS or liveaquaria.com. I have a jewel cichlid, swordtails, guppies, harlequin rasboras, male and female bettas, bloodfins, white clouds, dwarf gourami, zebra danios, and pristella tetras.

I need as many ideas as possible and all the help I can get!!! Thanks!

So, a friend has this fish tank: http://www.aquavistainc.com/products.html

Yesterday night, the power went out, and the heater was supposed to default to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 Celsius) when the power came back on, but for some reason, it went to 113 degrees Fahrenheit (45 Celsius). This ended up killing the poor fish. :(

What she wants is a battery backup so that if power does go out, they would like the tank to maintain temperature.

I know the tank uses 0.125 KW or 125 Watts.

Can anyone recommend a solution?

I have had my goldfish Jose for about two months now. He has someting on his tail which I am concerned may be fin rot. It is faintly white, but not very much so. It is also slightly frayed, but again, not very much so. I am worried that he may have fin rot, and that he may pass it on to his tank buddies Paco and Maria. Does this sound like fin rot? I have done research on the disease but am still not sure whether he has it because the white and the fraying are very slight and very hard to see. I would treat the water with a fin rot medication just as a precaution, but I heard that it messes up the biological filter and gets rid of the good bacteria. If this is fin rot, what should I do?!?

I have a Tropical Fish tank. I have 2 Tiger Barbs, 2 Gourami's, and A Tri-Color Shark in the tank. Yesterday my catfish suddenly died and I noticed some whit spots on him when I took him out of the tank. Before he died he was swimming up near the top of the tank and kept falling to the bottom. Today I noticed that my Shark was acting similar the way the catfish acted before he died, and I also seen the little white dots on the shark. The other fish are fine, for now. The PH and ammonia levels of the tank are fine. What could be the problem?

Recently for my new fish I completely revamped my tank into a whole new setup. I used to have neon gravel, an assortment of ornaments, pink , blue and purple plasric plants. I started to think all the artifical dyes, and plastic might have been affecting my tank. When my Ryukin died I completely revamped the tank with natural gravel, a live plants and no coloured ornaments.

Which do you prefer and has what I did made any difference to the health of my future goldfish?

I already have 1 Aqua-Tech filter, but I am getting a otocinclus and I have heard they are huge waste makers.

Also, if i have two filters, do i still need a air pump. The air pump is a 5-15 gallon as well.

I had a fish for over a year, that died this past week. He was a blue male guppy. I am getting a new fish to go in my aquarium this coming week, and was wondering is there anything, besides fish, that can go in there? It's a 5 gallon filtered aquarium with freshwater. I love having fish, and was wondering if there was anything else that could go in there?

So, I wonder: How do fish know their own kind? And even more so, their own colors? I have a tropical community 55 gallon designer aquarium and am more fascinated everyday. It is a new tank, and I started adding fish little by little over 8 weeks. My final result is: 2 sunburst Mollies, 2 red Mollies, 2 dalmation Mollies (one white with black spots, one black with white spots), 5 zebra Danios, 2 Ghostfish, 2 Gouramis (one powder blue and one sunset color), 2 neon tux Male Guppies, and 1 Plecco algea eater.

So here is what I came to notice. Every fish sticks with their own color! As you see, I have 6 Mollies, two of each color and they only stick with the coloring that they are. I find this fascinating.

Does anyone know why and how they do this?
