According to Tim's Tropicals http://www.timstropicals.com/Compatibility/NameResults.asp

Bala Shark, Black Skirt tetra, bosemani rainbow, clown loach dwarf neon rainbow, glofish, kissing gourami, kribensis, kuhli loach, leopard pleco L114, molly, pearl gourami, peppermint pleco L030, Platy, common pleco, rainbow shark, red tailed shark, rosy barb, sunshine pleco L014, swordtail, three spot gourami, tin foil barb, upsidedown catfish, zebra danio.

I have a 37 gal tall tank with a semi-aggressive community. I have the following inhabitants, and they all do great together.

5 green tiger barbs
5 zebra loaches
5 oto catfish
1 albino bushynose catfish
2 pictus catfish
3 blue gourami
2 pearl gourami
3 rosy barbs
?? ramshorn snails
?? Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS)
Heavily Planted w/ low light plants, driftwood, and holey rock
course sand substrate

I don't agree with all of Tim's recommendations. Tiger Barbs are semi-aggressive and are nippy and very active. They would certainly nip the fancy fins and tails of the black widow (skirt) tetras, and I don't think I would put them with mollys. Many of his suggestions, such as the common plec and the clown loach will soon get too big for your tank, unless you have a very large (75 gal +) tank.

Make sure you research the adult size of the fish before you buy them. Our favorite fish store has many very large fish that people have brought in because they simply outgrew their tank.

You seem obsessed with putting tiger barbs and a pictus catfish together. lol IF the tiger barbs are large enough not to get eaten and assuming you add at least 5-6 tiger barbs it will be fine.

Other than that, the key to success with tiger barbs is keeping them n a school of about 6.. more is better. They will not give other fish as much problems that way. Also, keep them with other fish that do not have long fins and that can swim fairly fast. Most tetras, other barbs and danios are good choices.

I like doing 3 tiger barbs, 1 angelfish, 1 loach, and than a red clawed crab in my 10 gallon tank, but you could also do a shrimp or frog. I'll probably be getting a shrimp next time I head out. I'd suggest 2 loaches, 2 or 3 tiger barbs, just 1 angelfish unless you like good entertainment than do 2 angelfish, and then a crab, shrimp, or frog that can live completely underwater (like a red-clawed crab, or african dwarf frog or something). I hope this helps. P.S. most tiger barbs don't actually grow too big for it. I've had mine for about 1 year and they're the exact same size as when I bought them and they're healthy as ever. (Don't get guppies they try to eat all everyone's food including the other fish.)

It depends on who you ask. Adult tiger barbs should be fine with the polkadot pictus. The fourline pictus grows to 10" or so and can eat them. Keyhole cichlids, kribensis, Bolivian rams, rosy barbs, silver dollars, corydoras will all work well with them.
